We last featured Los Angeles blues-rock band The Proof. back in October when the emerging four-piece group released their debut single. We fell hard for their gritty, funkified sound but had no details about when they would release a proper album. It looks like our waiting days are over now that they have finished their EP. “Bang Bang” is the first track from the album of the same name. It has all the soul of the first single with a grooving bass line that brings out your inner badass. The five-track EP is available now from their website.

Los Angeles-based four-piece group the proof. have a funky soul sound that goes down easier than the smoothest whiskey. They’re a new band (formed this summer and began recording a month later!), but you’d never know it from the incredibly tight grooves they lay down on this new single. It starts out mellow, with a spotlight on lead singer Drew Dolan’s warm, bluesy vocals and subdued keys. Then the real magic kicks in, courtesy of funk-filled bass, guitar and percussion. This is a gem of a tune from a band we’re going to keep a watchful eye on. They’re brewing up a batch of sweet sonic voodoo we want to hear more of soon. We’ve been singing the praises of LA funk/soul band The Proof. for over a year now. Since delivering their debut EP, Bang Bang, in January, these guys have been garnering new fans by the thousands. (Within six months they had more than 100,000 Soundcloud spins!) Since that time they have been hard at work on new tunes, and “Happy Street” is the fruit of those labors. Another groove-filled number that’s heavy on funk and equally overflowing with soul, this song again reminds us why we first fell hard for this band.
Their charisma is off the charts, eclipsed only by their talent. With sultry vocals and strut-inducing riffs (those kick in around the :55 mark), this is your new anthem to crank as a pick-me-up. With each listen you’ll feel a little bit taller and a lot more badass.

Established in 2015, Los Angeles-based band, The Proof., has since established itself as a dynamic musical force. Their unique sound brings a reverberation of yesterday’s past through a foundation rooted in The Blues. With storytelling lyrics and soulful vocals, the sounds take life in a genuine and contemporary form with instrumental influences creating a melting pot of Funk, R&B, Soul, Reggae and Gritty Rock.
The band formed after Drew Dolan (Lead Vocals/Keyboard) and Geramie Laufersky (Guitar/Vocals) broke away from a previous project to collaborate on a new sound. With a vast library of original music and a clear vision, they crossed paths with Ian Murray (Bass) and Lucas Crouch (Drums). The band promptly found itself on both the stage and in the studio recording their debut EP, Bang Bang.
Since releasing the five-track EP, The Proof. has seen nothing but blessings. Live performances in some of LA’s most legendary rooms such as The Troubadour, Harvelle’s Santa Monica, Mrs. Fish (DTLA) and a Friday night residency at The Hotel Café have cast the band’s sound into the forefront of the budding rebirth of soul in the city.
In addition to hitting the gigging scene intensely, the unsigned project has made an impact both online and on terrestrial radio. The music, mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Steve Baughman, surpassed 100,000 spins on SoundCloud in less than six months. With the support of the tastemakers at KCRW, K-JAZZ and KCSN, The Proof. continues to gain momentum in the LA market, while features on both Jam In The Van and The WorldArts Stage have helped put the band on the digital video map.
Onstage, this brotherhood of vibration brings a swampy sound that is guaranteed to make you groove. You will be cast out into the cosmos on a musical journey that will take your heart and soul to a place where nostalgia meets present day. Recent concertgoers have compared The Proof. to The Meters, Dr. John, Bill Withers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys and JJ Grey & Mofro, to name a few.
