Bio
The Pine Hollows are a NY-based rock and roll group consisting of Gianni Napolitano, Ray Belli and Will Salwen. Formed in late 2010, they have already completed their first full-length record of original material (recorded on a 16-track console with 2? tape) and have performed successfully at venues like Sullivan Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, Pianos, Southpaw, Spike Hill and Rockwood Music Hall in the greater New York area.
The Pine Hollows’s music is steeped in the traditions of rock and roll’s past. They deliver cogent songs with memorable, distinctive melodies and energetic, guitar-based arrangements that recall the likes of yesteryear’s Buddy Holly and The Rolling Stones. Gianni sings at full-capacity belt or near-whisper while strumming along, punctuating moody lyrics with his manic guitar. Ray and Will, on drums and bass, respectively, ably adapt to provide propulsive movement or gentle lilt. And yet what is so interesting about The Pine Hollows is that they manage to convey all these vintage influences in a contemporary setting: one would never expect a band so traditionally-minded to create a sound so invitingly fresh and original.
Members of The Pine Hollows have achieved extraordinary performance experience by playing alongside the likes of Ace Frehley (KISS,) Steven Adler (Guns N’ Roses,) and Mike Starr (Alice in Chains.) Additionally, members of The Pine Hollows have toured with The Butthole Surfers on their 2008 European Tour as both an opening act for the group and as members of the group itself. Individually, members of The Pine Hollows have also toured with John Wetton (King Crimson, Asia, UK,) Napoleon Murphy Brock (Frank Zappa,) Jon Anderson (Yes,) and Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers.)
As individual recording artists, The Pine Hollows have previously recorded with Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Gwen Stefani,) Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai,) and Marco Benevento (Benevento Russo Duo, Suprise Me Mr. Davis,) among others. Additionally, they have been featured individually on VH1's Woodstock: Now & Then documentary as well as the 2010 Season Final of VH1's Sober House.
