San Diego based duo The New Assembly open their new EP, Clouds and Waves, with skittering drums over soothing electric piano. Later joined by a plaintive melody from singer Scott Spick and additional textures, the song takes a series of sharp left turns, veering between minor and major keys with ease. This ever-present tension is the product of multi-instrumentalists Spick and Manu Rueda, and the elaborate production and arrangement on display belies the fact that this is the pair’s debut release. Formed in 2009, The New Assembly developed their 4-track EP with the assistance of producer Bryan Cook (producer of Train’s ‘Hey Soul Sister’, among many other works). The resulting album is a mature, complete release, offering immersive instrumentation and exciting audiences for what may come next. - Jon Ozaksut, zZounds.com
The New Assembly has made an EP of accessible and still musically intricate songs that are great fun to listen to. Keep your eyes on these two. – thecorrespondencemusic.com
I like them a lot. I started listening to their song Beyond The Sound on their myspace page. I was immediately hooked. – sandiegopunk.com

Filled with subtle synths and beats, this EP is syncable as all get-out: music supervisors (and labels/pubcos who like money) should take note. Songs from Clouds and Waves are garnering local radio support from THREE San Diego stations (Alternative KBZT, Triple A KPRI and Hot A/C KYXY). - http://talentfilter.blogspot.com
