PINK MOON OPENS “BIG WINDOW” FOR MATT MORGAN
--- In January I visited the Townhouse Recording Studios in Toronto’s East End to get the first taste of Matt Morgan’s debut solo album “Big Open Window”. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, the front man for the Emerson Street Rhythm Band stopped first in British Columbia, before settling in the GTA, and his travel experiences infuse his creativity, both lyrically and musically. Inspired by the Great White North, the funk stirred artist writes about his first visit to BC in his song Victoria and reflects his appreciation of mixed genre music through nine more inspiring songs on “Big Open Window”.
Commercial release of the album is planned for late March, and Matt is busy entertaining GTA audiences with his soulful and funky tunes both independently and with the Emerson Street Rhythm Band. Crowds continually follow the magnetic singer / songwriter to hear what he plays next, and where his musical inspirations are taking him.
Riding a wave of his own creation, this singer does not waste any time over-thinking the future sound of his music. Part of the next generation rediscovering the music of Bob Dylan, it’s no surprise “Don’t Think Twice” has been both an inspiration to Matt Morgan and a motto for his own music. Matt mixes genres, sounds, beats, and styles, and following the spontaneity of his creation has won him a following of fans who just can’t get his catchy songs out of their heads. Matt Morgan’s music is fresh risk-taking, engaging, and speaks to our collective experience, both soul-wrenching sadness as well as jump-up-and-down-joyful, just plain fun. His music has something for everyone.
Put it to the test. Play the new album “Big Open Window” for your toughest music critics; listen to the passionate sounds of Matt Morgan. And then be sure to attend one of Matt’s shows, either a mellow solo event or an energized ESRB show. You’ll definitely want to check out Friday, March 19, 2010 at Clintons, 693 Bloor Street West, which fans are anticipating as this winter’s must see show. This is the on stage debut for new tracks from “Big Open Window”, along with favourite tunes from classic Emerson Street Rhythm Band, plus appearances by bands One Flew West and Macro Fiesta. Show starts at 9pm; check out mattmorgan.ca for more.

Bio
Born from the dim street lights and sweat soaked stages of the ever evolving music scene in Toronto, the Mayday has created that blend of raw and gritty edge with a dose of blue-eyed soul. There is no doubt that you can hear Matt Morgan’s St. Louis, Missouri upbringing when he takes the mic, as he speaks of ill-fated love stories that resonate with anyone who has ever had their heart broken. His delivery and command of the stage displays a level of comfort all too often underestimated in live performances, and the playfulness between the band members always makes for an entertaining show. With Yash Presswalla on bass, Gareth Parry on lead guitar, Matt Burns on drums, and Sebastian Buccioni on keys, the Mayday is a quartet of top level musicians whose accomplishments and session work is articulated in the tightness of the band’s sound.
The jazz influenced funk rhythms, and soulful harmonies make their signature sound, which not only crosses genres, but generations. Look out for an EP coming out later this year and follow this dynamic group on social media as they make their way on to your record player and into your headphones.
