For the benefit of others:PinkFest Act 1 The Lowry Sisters
Posted on October 19, 2011 by Deb-McKale-McMahan
On Sunday, October 16th, 2011, I was blessed to attend Pinkfest at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville, a benefit for Women Rock For the Cure.
Women Rock For the Cure was created in 2007 by Jenson Sussman, Liz Lee Schullo, Rebekah Lee Beard and Tara Austin. Jenson Sussman, is a young breast cancer survivor who at the tender age of 27 was diagnosed, and found herself seemingly alone. The average breast cancer patient is well beyond 27, being more common after 40 years of age. Jenson made a promise that if she recovered she would help others in whatever way she could against this disease. This was a promise that Jenson has not broken, and out of that promise was born Women Rock For The Cure.
???
Pinkfest was a collaboration of community. Noomizo envisioned it and Indie Nashville produced it with Nathan Brown. Designer Betsey Johnson, herself a breast cancer survivor, donated the dresses worn by the performers. Jon Buko, a budding Nashville artist donated portraits of the performers for an auction. In this series, I would like to introduce the performers who gave their time selflessly for this cause.
Act One The Lowry Sisters
The Beach Boys sang in harmony about California Girls before Allison, Ashley and Lauren Lowry were ever born. This sister trio left California behind to pursue their own blend of harmony in none other than Music City, Nashville Tennessee. At first glance they have that sweet charming girl next door appeal, but it doesn’t stop there. From the very first song it’s clearly evident that these three beautiful young women are blessed with talent. They have created their own style which they refer to as “Psychedelic Americana”.
???
?Not quite rock or pop and not particularly country, their self composed songs unify the elements and characteristics of a combination of genres into a pleasingly familiar yet unique blend. It’s a folksy rock that’s anything but boring.
They each play an important role in bringing it all together. Allison is the lead singer, Ashley strums guitar, while Lauren’s fingers float across the keyboard, together they create the sound of The Lowry Sisters.

Cowboy hats and boots were the order of the day recently at the Kazabra Club on Pulaski Barracks as country music star Aaron Tippin pulled into Kaiserslautern as part of his “Stars for Stripes” Armed Forces Entertainment tour.
Tippin, a longtime supporter and advocate of the U.S. military, got his life, as well as his career, started in the military.
“My daddy was an Air Force flight instructor the day I was born,” Tippin told the crowd. “The day my first single broke on country radio, I was in Saudi Arabia with Bob Hope performing for the Soldiers. Country radio didn’t start my career, the military did.”+
So it was only fitting that the country crooner is touring various Army and Air Force installations across Europe, playing hits and enjoying every minute he spends with the troops.
“Somebody asked me last night what’s the favorite part of your show,” Tippin said backstage. “I said, ‘When it’s over. When I can get down off stage and interact and say thanks.’ If I didn’t sing a note, I just want to personally go out there and shake their hand and tell them Merry Christmas.”
This is Tippin’s seventh year doing the “Stars for Stripes” tour. Last year he played acoustic sets for the Soldiers in Afghanistan. For most artists, the grind of touring and being on the road wears them down, but watching Tippin during his show, you get a sense that he completely enjoys traveling and doing these performances.
“These are fun,” he said with a grin. “Especially when I’m downrange. I mean, that’s a pretty captive audience.”
Joining Tippin on his tour were The Lowry Sisters, an Americana/country trio hailing from Northridge, Calif. They, too, have strong ties to the military. One of their grandfathers was the recipient of the Silver Star in World War II. They look at a tour like this one as their way of saying thank you to the troops and bringing them a little piece of home.
“A lot of our family was military,” said lead singer Allison Lowry. “So being able to do this is really special. To be able to give back, you know, and just have them enjoy our show and bring some joy to them and thank them for what they do for us every day.” - Kaiserslautern American - Lifestyles

Bio
On New Year's Eve, 2006, three talented and determined sisters arrived in Nashville, Tennessee, ready to start a new year in Music City. Uncertain of their future, they took a chance and made one of the best decisions of their lives. Nashville has given a warm welcome to the Alternative Country sound of The Lowry Sisters at local venues such as 3rd and Lindsley, Mercy Lounge and The Basement.
Along with recording and releasing 2 EP's, the latest in mid-2012, the sisters have landed nine songs in the Hallmark original movies "Back to You and Me", "Thicker Than Water" and "Murder Without Conviction". Their performances include fairs and festivals across the country as well as a USO Tour in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Honduras with an up-coming tour in Europe.
Their sound has been developed through years of working and singing together and has matured into a unique blend of Roots, Americana and Country that is all their own. The dynamic trio is refreshing with Allison's powerful and passionate lead vocals, Lauren's melodic keyboards and Ashley's contributions on acoustic/electric guitar, mandolin and banjo. Lauren and Ashley also contribute to the rich harmonies with a natural warmth and blend that only a family can produce.
The Lowry Sisters' writing, vocals and stage presence create a timeless sound that will warm the hearts of every generation.
