"Austin Music Minute - That Mojo Folk"

Jahnavi and Addison, founding members of The Love Sprockets, made their way to Austin from Vermont in 2013 with little more than their bicycles and the tools of their trade – mandolin, fiddle, ukulele, and harmonica. They’d spun quite a few new tunes along the way, and when they arrived to their destination, it didn’t take long for them to meet bassist Aaron Watson and drummer/vocalist Pete Van Dyck to get the ball rolling. The Love Sprockets pour heart and soul into a high-energy whirlwind of original bluegrass, gospel, blues and folk songs.

The band recently started an August residency at the Historic Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. You can see them perform there Monday nights throughout this month of August. - KUTX

"The Love Sprockets, Handlebar (121 East 5th)"

The Love Sprockets:
These Austin troubadours resist classification. They’re sort of bluegrass, sort of soul, sort of indie rock, sort of folk, but really awesome. They rock mandolins and harps and ukes, bringing an intensity from their instruments heretofore unheard of. If you can’t make their show, then you should at least do whatever you can to hear their record, Nobody Wants to Die, because it’s one of the best local releases of the year. - Austin Live Weekly at The Horn

Bio

In November 2012, Addison Rice and Jahnavi Newsom fell in love and formed The Love Sprockets... (or did they form The Love Sprockets and fall in love? guess we'll never know)

Either way, they lived in the Shire-like mountain town of Brattleboro, Vermont.

They lived, worked, wrote songs, recorded a super low-fi living room album. and played music all over the place.

Then, on September 15th, 2013, Jahnavi and Addison embarked on a cross country bicycle trip, and rode from VT to Austin, TX with a bunch of instruments and their dog, Zoso. (they had a lot of food too, but they ate it)

After 4 grueling, heart-and-mind-expanding months of pedaling and connecting with strangers, The Love Sprockets arrived in Austin Texas.

The Capital.

That was January 2014.

And no sooner did they arrive (well, after a few months of starting a new life out of absolutely nothing... couch surfing, nude modelling, etc) then a couple of stupendous band mates fell into their laps - Watson on upright bass and micro-brewed beer and Pete on drums and angelic harmonies.

After a year of silliness, practice, and consumption of Thirsty Goat, they hit the studio in January 2015 with their wily sound engineer, Captain Red Beard, and recorded their first full-blown, no-holds-barred, unadulterated, panty-dropping album...

Nobody Wants To Die...

The Love Sprockets play Bluegrass, Soul, Gospel, Blues, and Rock music with Folk instruments and intricate vocal melodies. No matter what realm of auditory exploration we find ourselves in, the focus of our writing and performing is to bring the listener on a journey, tell them a story, and explore with them some of the many aspects of what it is to be human.
