The Killgirls
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia | MAJOR
Bio
Based in South Australia, The Killgirls are a 5-piece indie/electro band with teeth, making music for party people. Having played up to the ecstatic mayhem of the 2010 Fringe Opening Party in front of 40,000 people, 2011 saw them score a Boiler Room spot at the Big Day Out; rock Parklife, play The Clipsal 500 after race party, as well as many other shows around the country. They have shared stages with Crystal Castles, MSTRKRFT, Die Antwoord, Bloody Beetroots, Art VS Science and Oh Mercy!; and supported Dead Letter Circus on their NO FRACKING WAY Tour in November, and this, as they say, is just the beginning.
The Killgirls have grown from strength to strength in their short history, releasing their sophomore EP ANIMAL in October 2011, launched at the Queens Theatre (which raised the bar on launch parties) complete with a 50ft blow up Astronaut, killer light show and a crowed surfing guitarist in inflatable raft. ANIMAL, produced, mixed and mastered entirely by lead vocalist Mario Spate, and recorded by the band - Nick O’Connor on bass, Hamish Cox playing synths, Nick Russell on drums, Rusty Hutchinson on guitar - the EP is the sound of The Killgirls unleashed. The first single, ‘Astronaut’ is a bass driven dance floor anthem at the ready, followed by their debut clip for the title track ANIMAL, guaranteed to take you higher.
Thanks to an extensive run of local and national shows, The Killgirls have carefully honed their performance skills, delivering exhilarating shows at will. In mind, body and music, the band’s clear aim is to get the party started – immediately. They slam aggression into excitement in an effort to inspire and invigorate; to get audiences pumped up and crazy. Clarity and anarchy with a charismatic male vocal, distorted bass, jagged guitar, a catchy synth and solid dance beats to urge you on.
This is the countdown to overload, so buckle up, hang on and enjoy the ride.
“Slamming anarchy, euphoria, distortion, drenched guitar riffs, and polished dance beats together into an intoxicating brew.” - Everguide
‘ I hope they start getting some real exposure because they have star quality.’ - Richard Holt / Traffik
