"The Interns"

So, are all these guys interns somewhere? As a matter of fact, yes. King, Miles and Johnson all met while interning at Chase Park Transduction Studios. The experience has served them well. Johnson continues to work at Chase Park as a recording engineer, and The Interns recorded their debut, self-titled record at the studio back in November. When pressed for specific influences, Johnson says, "Our influences are the things around us more than any specific artist or music type. I guess our songs are mostly about recreating a moment or feeling, or creating it for the first time, and incorporating different elements of the different kinds of music that best accomplish that." The overall feel is a sort of an edgy yet ambient folk rock that falls somewhere between Sparklehorse and Wilco. If you catch The Interns live, you're likely to also see Futurebirds on the bill - that band shares King and Bradford as members.

Bio

The idea for the Interns came together in Septermber 2007, when Thomas Johnson, Carter King, and Brannen Miles all met while interning at Chase Park Transduction, where Johnson now works as an engineer. T.J. Mimbs and Johnson met as freshman at the University of Georgia, and had been playing in a recently broken up band called Savage Lucy with Miles. Johnson and Payton Bradford were introduced through a mutual friend at an Ice Cream Socialist’s (for whom Bradford played drums) show and had immediately began talk of forming a new project. Johnson and Bradford had a mutual respect for King, and so the natural next move was to ask King to join up with the newly assembled group. The vibes from the first “practice” were electric, and so they decided to move forward as an actual band. So by October 2008, the Interns assembled 9 songs and recorded one of them at Chase Park Transduction. While in the studio mixing that song, which turned out to be "Hard Line," King, Johnson, and Miles were brainstorming about band names, and the Interns just came naturally. They ended up recording the other 8 songs at Chase Park Transduction in late November before they had even played their first show. Since then, the band has finally finished mixing their debut self-titled record and played several shows in Athens including shows at Caledonia Lounge and 40 watt, where they just opened up for Dead Confederate. The Interns draw somewhat from their influences, which are varied and numerous. People who come to an Interns show can expect to see high energy, dynamic rock’n’roll.
