— TIFTON — Tifton’s yearly Hometown Holiday Celebration will continue this year despite economic challenges, organizers said Tuesday.
The 11th annual event has been reduced in scale but will still offer plenty of activities Dec. 3, 4 and 6, said Fran Kinchen, City of Tifton-Main Street promotion coordinator and chair of the Hometown Holiday Celebration.
On Sat. Dec. 5th, the downtown celebration will begin immediately after the parade with the lighting of the Christmas tree, followed by performances by local musical groups including the Tift County High School Show Choir, Tifton Choral Society, The Gospel Starlights of Tifton and Carpenter Road Church of God. There will be food vendors, crafts and amusement rides downtown, and the First Baptist Church will have hand bell performances and music on the steps of the church.
The Tifton Gazette will host the Winter Wonderland Tour at Fulwood Park, handing out candy canes to visitors who ride the tram from downtown Tifton, and will also be collecting canned goods for the soup kitchen during the tour.

The Gospel Starlights started singing in June of 1990 in the home of their parents, Mr. Bennie Frank Hill and Mrs. Betty Gean Hill. Down through the years, the Gospel Starlights have been on a mission to spread the Gospel abroad with the hopes of expanding the kingdom of God with souls being saved. This mission is very important because it keeps them motivated to do what thus says the Lord. They ...have learned that without Christ, they can do nothing, but with Christ, all things are possible. This is why they have been able to stay together and minister for 20 years throughout South Ga. and surrounding states. The Gospel Starlights currently have a CD and Live DVD which are entitled Be Glad and Rejoice In the Lord. The CD is currently available on iTunes, Amazon.com and Cdfreedom.com.
