"Hear The Glazzies' Cosmic Grunge Debut 'Kill Me Kindly' Right Now"

With riffs that hit you like a shovel to the head, Peter Landi and Dave Horn are stoking the fire of the 90s alt-rock revival with Kill Me Kindly, the duo's first full-length record. The Sag Harbor, Long Island band (Landi on vocals and guitar, Horn on drums) are ripping pages right out of the book of grunge and working with a fresh grunge sound that doesn't sound dated.

This album is all about aliens, Landi told me. It's also about other things, you know the things you write songs about, but mostly it's about aliens.

The Glazzies have been around since 2009 (and the guys have been friends for much longer than that) so it's no surprise their sound is so tight. Listen to Kill Me Kindly in full below and maybe catch them on tour. Kill Me Kindly is out September 16 on Old Flame Records. - Noisey

"PREMIERE: The Glazzies stream procrastinators anthem, “Wasting Time”"

On September 16, New York guitar-and-drums rock duo the Glazzies will unleash some raw, garage-style rock ‘n’ roll on the masses with their newest album, Kill Me Kindly. Today, we have the pleasure of streaming one of the effort’s singles, titled “Wasting Time.” Listen below and let us know what you think.

Speaking to Substream about how this particular track came together, singer/guitarist Peter Landi says, “‘Wasting Time’ is a song about daydreaming procrastinators who are looking for ways to kill time. Like a lot of songs on the record, it was written very quickly. It was originally a guitar riff that I would play in between songs at practice. Those are usually my favorite songs—ones that show themselves to you and that are already there.”

If you’re like me and need some physical contact with your music, you can order Kill Me Kindly on vinyl through Old Flame Records while limited supplies last.

If you happen to be in the Brooklyn area TONIGHT, the Glazzies will be playing a FREE record release show at Baby’s All Right on Broadway. You can find all the details here. - Substream Magazine

"PREMIERE: The Glazzies - "Spies Overhead""

Long Island duo the Glazzies are singer-songwriter-guitarist Peter Landi and drummer Dave Horn. They offer fuzzy anthems with earworm hooks and warped psychedelia. They’re set to release their latest full-length effort, Kill Me Kindly, later this fall. An early taste of the album is “Spies Overhead.” It’s a grunge-leaning jam with dense, rhythmic power chords soaked in distortion and quick-hitting, intricate drums surrounding the infectious repeated refrain “Maybe you are fake.” Landi questions what we know about ourselves and the world as we know with lines like, “Why does the road quake/ Every time you turn on/ A robot face/ Behind the one you saw,” cutting through the density of the surrounding buzz. Here’s what Landi had to say about the track:

“Spies Overhead” is one of our favorite tracks on the new record. That song came along really quickly in the writing process and it is also a favorite to play live. When I first came up with the guitar part, the phrase “Spies Overhead” came to mind and I loved the imagery that came along with it. Cold War, government espionage, extraterrestrials. I just thought it was cool! - Stereogum

"Watch The Glazzies Get Weird (And Creepy) In Their 'So Strange' Video"

Halloween hasn’t ever suffered from a shortage of cool, weird rock anthems, but New York duo the Glazzies offer a solid new option in the form of “So Strange.” Watch alone… if you dare.

Things get weird pretty quickly in the track’s music video (premiering here exclusively) which features trippy, warped visuals, creepy masks and, yes, those are definitely some unnecessarily disturbing baby dolls. Thanks, but no thanks.

“For this video, we used the title of the song to fuel our ideas,” the Glazzies told MTV News. “’So Strange’ has some elements of psych rock and we wanted to incorporate that into the video. Our friends Micah [Weisberg] and Bill [Dvorak], who directed the video, used a VHS camera and layered shots together to get the strange effect that we were looking for.”

“So Strange,” with its giant hook and shrieking, splintering guitars, is featured on the band’s Satin Stain EP (where Dinosaur Jr’s legendary Murph plays drums, which is pretty sick). The Glazzies specialize in ’90s influenced alternative that goes well beyond Nirvana worship: buzzy, haunting melodies that are sleek, yet perfectly rough around the edges. Just strange enough, if you ask us. - MTV by Loren Diblasi

"The Glazzies Premiere New Single “Maybe Someday” featuring Dinosaur Jr.’s Murph"

Long Island-based duo The Glazzies were set to release their new LP, Kill Me Kindly, earlier this year via Old Flame Records. However, they made the decision to push back the album when a new opportunity arose, one that these diehards of classic ’80s and ’90s indie rock simply couldn’t pass up. The band’s producer, Justin Pizzoferrato, is known for his work with Dinosaur Jr., and he was able to hook the band up with Dino’s drummer, Murph. Together, The Glazzies and Murph recorded three tracks, which will all be featured on a forthcoming EP, Satin Stain, out May 19th via Old Flame.

Our first taste of the collaborative release was with “So Strange”, and now they present their latest single, “Maybe Someday”. Peter Landi’s guitar chords shift with a bit of Cobain-ian swing, exploding out on the chorus into a strummed barrage. Murph pounds out some skillfully timed drums that Dave Horn will no doubt have a ton of fun playing live. But for all the fun they’re having playing it, the song isn’t a exactly a joyful tune. Landi bemoans the feeling of staleness that overtakes everyone at some point. Not really motivated to make the change, but not content enough to accept his place, he sings out, “Yeah maybe, maybe someday will come sooner than later/ I hope it does.” - Consequence Of Sound

"The Glazzies Releasing an EP ft. Dinosaur Jr’s Murph"

Dinosaur Jr producer Justin Pizzoferrato has been the go-to guy for younger bands who want to get a similar aesthetic to Dino's '80s/'90s indie rock, like Speedy Ortiz, California X, Blessed State, Placeholder and more. One of the newest additions to that list is Long Island's The Glazzies, but they've taken it a step further, getting Murph to drum on three of the five songs on their upcoming EP. The EP is called Satin Stain, will be out via Old Flame Records (Radical Dads, Potty Mouth, Shark?), and first single "So Strange" premieres in this post. It's one of the ones featuring Murph. - Brooklyn Vegan

"The Glazzies Release New Song “Spill”"

Singer-guitarist Peter Landi and drummer Dave Horn originally joined forces as The Glazzies back in 2008 while in high school in Sag Harbor, NY. However, following a sizable run of shows in and around the greater New York area, Horn departed from the band in 2010. Soldiering onward, Landi eventually recorded The Glazzies’ debut album, 2012’s Time Bomb Love, all on his own. Despite not having his friend and collaborator around, Landi still managed to recreate the wild and rollicking alt rock sound he and Horn had developed as a unit.

Flash forward to mid-2013, and Landi set to work on what was to become The Glazzies’ second album. For those sessions, he was joined by producer Justin Pizzoferrato, who previously helmed albums for Landi’s own personal heroes, Dinosaur Jr. and Pixies. With that record completed early last winter, Landi reunited with Horn back in December to play their first shows together in over four years. No doubt the pair will spend plenty more time on the road when they release the new LP, entitled Kill Me Kindly, in early 2015 through Old Flame Records.

Landi may have played every single instrument on the record, but lead single “Spill” definitely doesn’t sound like the work of one mere mortal. Taking the tried and true alt rock formula of bands like Mudhoney and Nirvana, Glazzies exaggerate every component to the Nth degree: guitars churn like chainsaws being driven into chain-link fences; drums explode with a few megatons worth of aggression; and Landi’s vocals alternate between manic mumbling and hoarse yelps of angst. As indebted to the past as their sound may be, Glazzies keep things fresh with the kind of intensity that grabs you by the ears and shakes you out of apathy. - Consequence of Sound

"Week In Pop - Impose Magazine"

Sag Harbor, NY’s The Glazzies recently followed up their 2012 album Time Bomb Love with the Satin Stain EP from Old Flame Records that sees guitarist/vocalist Peter Landi, and drummer Dave Horn joined by Dinosaur Jr.’s Murph for additional percussion contributions. With their new album Kill Me Kindly pushed back to a TBA date, Satin finds the duo fusing powers with the alt. rock legend to muster up the sound of mega-rock group that would have conquered the college charts, and swept the underground-ish festivals of the 80s and 90s.

“So Strange” kicks out jams like a main stage bad-boy Brit pop relishing in the glory of the 90s, but keeping the matter heavy as “Nothing To Say” is quick to point out on account of it’s thrashing pop ode to ineffable states. And with the pop hook wistful ways of the infectious “Maybe Someday”, you can hear something of what I called the Old Flame Records sound (the DIY pop recipes you have known and loved for years, but somehow improved for a new era of interpretation, and enlightenment.), right before ripping into amped-out rendering of The Kinks’ classic, “I’m Not Like Everybody Else”. The last song “Float” inspires crowd surfing situations, as every snotty and snarled delivery is met by equal parts head imploding guitar that is masterfully recorded by Justin Pizzoferrato.
Peter from the Glazzies shared a few words with us on the making of the EP, working with Murph, and the impact he had on Satin Stain:

Working with Murph was pretty surreal. I’ve been a fan of his drumming for years, so when the opportunity came up for him to play on the EP we couldn’t say no. We tracked all of his parts live in a couple of hours and when we started recording my guitar parts, he took my car to go pick some Chinese food that we had ordered. He’s an awesome dude to say the least. - Impose Magazine

"The Daily Krapht | The Glazzies "Spill""

The Glazzies, a hard-rocking duo from Long Island, NY, in preparing for the early 2015 release of their new LP Kill Me Kindly, on Old Flame Records, are offering listeners a peek at what’s to come with the track “Spill.” Peter Landi (guitars, vocals), and Dave Horn (drums), formed the band while finishing up high school in 2008, and are now fully reunited after the lengthy hiatus of Dave Horn, during which time Peter recorded two albums on his own, picking up the drumming duties in the studio. The band’s reunification was solidified in December 2013, and they have been hard at work this past year on the EP and playing some shows in the UK.

“Spill” bursts out of the speakers with a fuzzy guitar that has the punk swing that harkens back to the days Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr. As the drums kick in loud, it becomes apparent this track is not going to slow down, and it doesn’t. Its chugging guitar riff never lets up, and even if it wanted to, the drums wouldn’t allow it. It is a big sound to be made by only two musicians. Mr. Landi’s vocals, not too harsh or gruff, but far from angelic, are another layer to the sound; they don’t dominate, they find their space in the music and fit right in. “Spill” is nothing less than a solid tune that promises a great LP to come and a bright future for these musicians. - WordKrapht

Bio

Long Island’s Glazzies recall the heyday of ‘90s alternative rock while adding their own particular blend of influences filtered through the kind of passion they don’t teach in school.

Produced by Justin Pizzoferrato (Speedy Ortiz, Sonic Youth), Glazzies specialize in hook-filled anthems thick with the buzz of overdriven guitars. The undulating riff that kicks off and anchors “So Strange” has the same cross of grunge and psychedelia that early Smashing Pumpkins perfected. The Pumpkins had a great drummer and so do the Glazzies, as Dinosaur Jr.’s legend Murph lends his instantly recognizable pummel to the majority of songs on the five-song Satin Stain EP.

“Nothing To Say” takes today’s de rigueur Nirvana influence and twists it into the kind of muscular pop song that other bands spend entire careers chasing. “Maybe Someday” is a similar concoction, with the band squeezing a dollop of Weezer over top. It’s heartening to see Glazzies covering a lesser known gem by an underrated band. Their version of The Kinks’ paean to nonconformity “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” satisfies on all levels, adding power but sacrificing none of song’s inherent darkness. Closing things out with their most radio-ready song, “Float” hits the same off-kilter but naggingly catchy sweet spot that the Toadies nailed back when.

Released on Old Flame Records, Glazzies’ debut EP establishes them in the same realm as labelmates Cloud Nothings. With a full-length to follow later this year, Glazzies are poised to be the cool kids’ new favorite band.
