The Ghost
Sunday Best signings The Ghost explode on to the UK music scene with the release of their debut single ‘City Lights’ on May 31, 2010. The single is taken from their energetic and highly anticipated album ‘War Kids’ released shortly after on June 14, 2010.
The Ghost, Filip Mortensen on vocals and Urbanus Olsen on electronics, play a compelling mix of vintage electro pop and indie rock, showcased brilliantly by ‘City Lights’, which also contains strong contemporary pop sensibilities: a perfect combination that results in this catchy anthemic summer debut.
The band come from the Faroe Islands and first came to Rob da Bank’s attention at The Iceland Airwaves Festival where their live performance, on-stage charisma and energy blew him away. They also caught the attention of the NME who returned to the UK proclaiming the band as ‘Ones to Watch’. The band have since gone on to support Ladytron and The Wombats on tour.
The remix package propels the track firmly onto the dancefloor with re-takes by David E. Sugar, The Deadstock 33s (Justin Robertson), Repeat Offenders (Jon Carter) and The Kenneth Bager Experience.
With European and UK tour dates set for May along with the release of their album ‘War Kids’… 2010 is all about The Ghost!
- Femalefirst
The last couple of weeks The Ghost have exploded unto the Faroese scene with their exciting electro-pop, resulting in permanent jaw dropage and vigorous ass shakage. The Ghost play a curious mix of electro-pop and indie rock. Supported by the searching minimalist tones of Urbanus Olsen, singer Filip Mortensen sings, moans, breathes and neighs himself to heights hitherto un-reached by Faroese singers. Even though The Ghost have only played a couple of gigs their massive talent and potential cannot be hidden. The hysterical reactions of those fortunate enough to have experienced them live attest to that fact. Musically The Ghost mix the vintage electro sounds of Kraftwerk with subsequent generation of electronic performers, yet retaining an organic and emotional basis. The result is one of the most exciting bands to emerge in the Faroese scene in a considerable while. - G Festival
