"#AOTW: The Gents"

"It’s a harmony filled ditty that will get your feet tapping. No doubt about that at all." -Kelly aka Turtle - Enter the Shell

"INTERVIEW: THE GENTS"

"The Gents have fashioned a sound that is universally fun and irresistibly catchy. Going on two years of writing and performing together, The Gents are quickly gaining traction in the indie folk rock scene here in Austin. With a backbone of three-piece harmonies and country tinted guitar, each song is as crisp as it is heartfelt." - Hayden Bernstein - Mood:Blog

"The Gents: Folk Rock and Then Some"

"I’m talking upbeat tempos that make you move like ants are seeking asylum in your shoes. That’s definitely what you’ll see with Matty, who’s crowned as the shuffler on stage... Typical to most shows, there seems to be a formula of sound and an interchange between upbeat and slower tempo songs. You have a crafty sound of careful and skillful drumming, an animated bassist, and vocals shared amongst all. Lead vocals are primarily shared between Matty and Kevin. They both contribute to what I call the “folk-rock-and-then-some” sound.
- Joana Ortiz, The Austinot - The Austinot

"Music Video Sneak Peek - Week 2 by The Gents, Release and Watch Party TMW, 9/12/13 @ The North Door"

"A little bit country, a little bit rock a roll, and sometimes a little bit Vampire Weekend meets The Band, The Gents cover most of Austin’s most sought after musical genres. With three of four members being songwriters, their recently released EP has a charmingly eclectic sound. Their obvious respect for one another’s musicianship creates beautiful cohesion among the diversity, some sweet vocal harmonies and a super cool blend of musical influences." - Jodi Lang, The Deli Magazine - The Deli Magazine

"Do512 Music Video Premiere: The Gents – “Week 2″"

"During the filming of their music video for “Week 2″, the band transforms a farmhouse recording studio, country road, and flatbed trailer into their very own dance hall, showing off their mutual love of rhythm, good times and catchy tunes. " - DO512.com - DO512.com

"Party This Thursday at The North Door"

"These scenes tell a story that compliments The Gents' strong musical cohesion, diverse song-writing capabilities and near flawless in-studio performance during the filming of the first ever "Farm Sessions" Live at The Ball Farm." - Covert Curiosity 'An Austin Music Blog' - Covert Curiosity

"Music festival preview: Third Red White and Blue Ball takes place Saturday"

"The Gents are infectiously energetic and fun to watch." -Greg Ackerman, Examiner.com - Examiner.com

"Live music preview: The Gents continue Cheer Up Charlies resiGENTSy tonight"

If you're like us, you see a ton of live music in Austin. Most local bands feature talented players but what you may not hear as often as you like is a group with their own particular sound. Austin's The Gents have cultivated a unique image, citing lofty influences such as The Band and CCR. Apart from classic Americana, fans can clearly hear folk and indie-rock influences in their work.

Our first exposure to The Gents at the RED, WHITE and BLUE BALL in 2013 included a tune that was decidedly indie with a smidgen of psychedelia thrown in for good measure while somehow maintaining a down home feel. They do all this while contributing beautiful three-part vocal harmonies that truly please the ear.

This month The Gents have been entertaining fans at Cheer-Up Charlies each Tuesday for the current resiGENTSy (see what they did there?). They have invited a rotating roster of good local acts to join the bill. Tonight's performance includes browngrass heroes Sour Bridges and The Watters. Past guests include; Hello Wheels, THE CANVAS PEOPLE and Harvest Thieves. The chance of rain drops to zero in Austin after 1 p.m. today with a clear crisp evening ahead and no cover charge which means local music fans have little excuse to miss this show.

The Gents have a new EP, The Means (Part I) that dropped on November 3 at Cheer-Ups. Fans will have the option to grab a CD or download card at the show. The remaining three EPs are slated to be released by Christmas 2016. Listen to their track My Days. The song leads off with those luscious harmonies we mentioned.

The final date of The Gents' month-long stay at Cheer-Ups concludes November 24 with indie-popsters MCG and Carry Illinois. The performance is free.

Tonight's set times:

(9pm) The Watters
(10pm) The Gents
(11pm) Sour Bridges - examiner.com

Bio

After the release of their third studio EP, "The Means: Part II" in the fall of 2016, Austin-based group, The Gents, took a step back from playing live and spent several months honing their sound, culminating with a recording session at The Bubble Studio in Austin, TX.  Under the direction of Chris "Frenchie" Smith, the group recorded several singles, solidifying their transition from an eclectic indie-rock, Americana band to a full-fledged rock and roll outfit drawing influence from bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, and AC/DC.

Christened "Meanswell" after their self-titled single, the band features a classic lineup with tight three-part harmonies, fueled by duel electric guitar attack, heavy bass, and drums. Meanswell is made up of members Matthew Blissard (guitar, vocals), Jon Denn (drums), Andrew Simmons (bass, vocals), and Kevin Manship (guitar, vocals).
