Whoever said that the ladies couldn’t do it like the fellas if not better? It’s the feminine combination of rock and, P-funk, not to mention the signature down south crunk ingredient that gives you a hangover effect. Don’t let the sweet rose look fool you. Three female contenders of the newly formed group THE GANG OF ROSES is setting off internationally, but not with the typical flavor or sound that we’ve grown accustomed to. Exploding on the scene with their female perspective of the game are three-skilled heavy weights; Shades, Durty Red and Laylow; telling the untold thoughts & real life situations of females conveyed through relatable yet sassy and aggressive lyrics. With only three years under their belt as a group and over twenty years expertise and experience combined in the entertainment industry, THE GANG OF ROSES is on the brink of elevating alternative rap with a vixen twist to it. "We’re bringing the whole music back when it comes to alternative rap," explains Durty Red. They’re the ghostwriters of female empowerment. "We represent the ladies but we’re not hatin’ on the guys…its give and take," explains Laylow. "We actually speak for all females because we say a lot of stuff that females want to say; we bring a balance."The southern underworld streets of Atlanta raised the crazy, sexy, cool emcees of alternative molding an interchangeable style that’s irresistible.
Through their upbringing anecdotes are similar in nature, each member posses a distinct element giving THE GANG OF ROSES their unique stance. Shades, a military brat, cite artist Too Short, for luring her into the realm of Hip-Hop. “… {The} first time hearing Cocktail just did it for me," says Shades. "I’ve been in the hip-hop dance scene for a long time," mentions Durty Red, who transitioned into a recording artist after years of entertaining as background dancer for acts such as Mary J Blige, Keith Sweat and most recently, the First Lady of Crunk & B, Ciara. It was a yesteryear episode of "Yo MTV Raps" featuring MC Lyte that would permanently link Laylow to the ever-evolving hip-hop chain. "Every since that day, I’ve been rapping," says Laylow. To date, Laylow has produced and written music for artist such as Raven Samone and the sultry R&B songstress, Monifah. What started merely as a vision is now a reality. Destiny was met when the three wordsmiths merged their individual flair forming THE GANG OF ROSES. While giving much respect to the Crunk capital in which they derive. THE GANG OF ROSES disassociates themselves as being solely "Queens of Crunk." The ladies cleverly dubbed themselves as the "Queens of Alternative Rap; that goes from our unique rap style, to our lyrics, to the way we look," defines Durty Red. On their debut album, presently titled “Bright Lights”, high energy and head bobbing beats are woven throughout each song. It’s their catchy hooks as storylines that overpower; drawing the attention of both female and male fans alike. "{On} each song we’re talking about something different, something we feel or may have experienced. We’re not recording the same concept. When you listen to the music you’ll see that video in your head at the same time. That’s what we aim for. Though written from a female perspective, THE GANG OF ROSES ensures that there’s something on the album for everyone. "Everyone is gonna have at least one song that they can relate to" affirms Laylow.
On the super-charge track, "Rockstar," the ladies get crunk, flips the script, spitting pimpish male-centered lyrics on having sex with no strings attached. "Listen", the ladies show that you can lose yourself in this game if you don’t stay focus on who you are and where you come from. "No Love in This House," there’s always something going on in a relationship, it now always good. Grant all access passes behind-the-scenes of the music industry on the hard-hitter, "Carnival Ride," Real life. Although currently reigning as a free agent trio, THE GANG OF ROSES is quickly becoming the most sought-after "next draft" pick. They’re already carving a niche in the south opening up shows for acts like 8 Ball & MJG, Master P & Atlanta’s own Franchize Boys & MisBehavin.
