From Austin, Texas comes the duo of Wayne Stovey and Kat McNevins known as The Fledglings. They are ready to release their self-titled new EP on Ride A Mule Records. The five-song output gives the duo a sound similar to a 60’s pop-folk group. Their “trippy” sound begins with “Paternoster (Inhale Balloons),” which sounds a bit unpolished, but contains a chorus that is hard to resist. Stovey adds a sitar-sounding guitar to the beginning of “Catching a Raindrop,” while “Krystal” wants you to relax and expand your mind to their music. While their music may not be mainstream pop, it is definitely worth checking out.

What makes The Fledglings an intriguing listen is how they inject a Fiery Furnaces and/or Ween weirdness into their indie-pop sound. Crooked pop songs are chock full of spacey keyboards (“Krystal”), oddball jig-like rhythms (“Catching A Raindrop”) or psychedelic rainbow melodies (“Paternoster (Inhale Balloons)”). Yet the Austin trio, while tip toward the oddball side of things, do stay grounded and never get too caught up in experimentation, which so far has yielded very promising results.

Bio
This is the Fledglings, an indie pop-rock outfit, consisting of Wayne (guitar and vocals) with Kat (keyboards and vocals). One day, Wayne came home from work and Kat said to him, "I've been listening to your demos and I learned one of your songs". From that point on, they where a band. Recently Tim (Bass) and Tony (Drums) joined, in order to fill out the sound..
