Fresh off of a studio album release and 2012 tour, The Dropa Stone is gearing up for their anticipated return to the House of Blues. The band has been waiting to unveil new music for this show, which they plan to take into the studio this spring with producer Justin Beckler for a new album. The group last performed at House of Blues to a capacity crowd last March, celebrating the release of "Starry Messenger."
The band has also released a short film titled "Riding the Musical Wave," which captures the essence of the band by providing insight into what motivates and drives their music, live shows and philosophy. The promo video was produced by Jay Snyder of Jay Brian Productions, who followed the band around with his camera during several shows of the tour. Live footage and interviews included were shot from performances at Hard Rock Live, Dunedin Brewery, The Social, Preservation Pub and House of Blues.
Consisting of Jon Meyers (Vocals/Guitar), Justin Henry (Lead Guitar), Joe Lederman (Drums) and Will Richey (Bass), The Dropa Stone is known for their powerful live performances and progressive leaning original music which showcases their distinctive brand of psychedelic rock with funk, blues and reggae. They display an uncanny ability to meld together contagious melodies, textured grooves, catchy vocals and jam based instrumentation.
The past year was a busy one for The Dropa Stone. Besides releasing a new album and concerts stretching from Florida to Tennessee, the band announced a new sponsorship with popular Vegan alternative food brands, Tofurky and Turtle Island Foods. This first of its kind partnership was ignited by the band's Vegetarian lifestyle on the road.
"Tofurky is excited to announce our first ever sponsorship of a plant powered band, The Dropa Stone." We are happy to provide them with delicious Tofurky products to keep them fueled on the road," said head of marketing, Lisa Shapiro.

The Dropa Stone was up next and jammed through a set of grooving psychedelic music that featured several songs off their new CD “Starry Messenger” including “Kinski’s Spiral,” “Other Worlds Than These” and “”Sandcastles.” The four piece band, Jon Meyers (vocals/guitar), Joe Lederman (drums), Justin Henry (lead guitar) and
Will Richey (bass), drew the crowd into a sing-along with their cover of Pink Floyd’s “Have A Cigar.” - Examiner.com (Kat Coffin)

Psychedelic rock group The Dropa Stone has released their anticipated new album, "Starry Messenger." The band performed to a capacity crowd at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL on March 16th celebrating its release.
Digital download and purchase of the album can be found on iTunes, the group's Bandcamp page and other digital media outlets the band has announced on their official web site http://TheDropaStone.com.
Consisting of Jon Meyers (Vocals/Guitar), Justin Henry (Lead Guitar), Joe Lederman (Drums) and Will Richey (Bass), The Dropa Stone is known for their explosive live performances and progressive leaning original music which showcases their distinctive blend of modern rock with rhythm and blues. They display an uncanny ability to meld together contagious melodies, texturedgrooves, catchy vocals and jam based instrumentation.
The album was produced by Justin Beckler, who has garnered a reputation as one of the go-to producers in the industry. The multi-textured and layered feel on Starry Messenger was recorded with an organic approach in mind, bucking the trend of modern studio trickery that is so prevalent as of late. In fact, much of the album was recorded live, harnessing the power of modern technology, while still maintaining the rawness of their sound.
“Starry Messenger is a sonic tour de force that represents a dynamic new approach to LP Rock,” says Trace Thomas of Masterlab & KDS Studios. “Bring your digital recorders to the show as the live concerts promise to deliver on technique and performance."
After performing at Hard Rock Live and House of Blues, The Dropa Stone has marquis performances lined up at Florida Music Festival and Jambando this month as the prequel to a heavy national touring and promotional schedule to follow in the summer.
Fans can visit the band's official web site and listen to new music while they enter the world of The Dropa Stone.

Starry Messenger, from Orlando rockers The Dropa Stone is now available, and it’s aptly titled. These talented musicians describe their music as a groovy fusion of rock with rhythm and blues. I can see that, but I’d say it has more of a progressive jam feel to it. It’s different than most of the stuff on the airways and in the local venues and it’s a welcome change.
The album features deep, layered powerful songs and showcases the excellent musical talent in the line-up. It’s extremely difficult to categorize the band, and that’s a good thing. If I had to compare them to any artists, it would be a creative combination of Incubus and King Crimson. It does not capture their sound perfectly, and I know it sounds odd, but it works.
The music on Starry Messenger is quite diverse. Throughout the nine selections, the guitar work from Justin Henry and Jon Meyers is excellent. Meyers is the lead vocalist and has a nice, fresh, unique voice. Will Richey on bass and Joe Lederman on drums consistently provide a powerful bass groove.
The album kicks off with a spacey Rush-esque rocker titled “Vectors,” it’s a good peek at what to expect over the remainder of the album, but the songs, direction and groove change throughout. There are a few nice tunes with more of a blues feel, such as “Catfish Blues” and Salsa Verde.”
The best cuts were the ones with more of an Alternative Rock bent, particularly my favorite “Kinski’s Spiral” and “Other Worlds Than These.”
The remainder of the album is pretty heavy on jam based rock with a clear classic rock feel. It well be well-received by fans of jam rock, but there are varied options for other rock fans. Starry Messenger is worth a listen for sure, and I suspect everyone will find a song or two that they really like.

Progressive rock may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is one of my favorite genres, especially when it’s done as well as it is here. The musicianship is rock solid…no weak links in this band. The production is stellar, the songwriting and arranging is imaginative and inspired, and the band definitely has its own uniquely identifiable sound. The playing is very precise and squeaky tight as the band weaves its way effortlessly through complex arrangements in various time signatures (4/4, 6/8, 7/8, etc….it’s all in there). The playing is also very tasteful and shows maturity….although each individual obviously has lots of chops, everyone is disciplined enough not to overplay, but rather to let the songs decide how they would like to be played. I could easily see these guys opening for Rush or Dream Theater.
Listening to this album reminded me of many other bands (for many different reasons). At times the songwriting and arranging reminded me of bands as varied as Dream Theater, Tempest, Rush, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, and even The Fixx and U2.
A few songs even had a grunge rock feel (in places). And on Catfish Blues I was instantly reminded of Robin Trower and Pat Travers – great blues guitar work. There were also the great vocal harmonies, wistful meandering bass lines and tasty guitar solo in Salsa Verde. Not to mention the rock solid drums thoughout, seasoned with some delicious hand and foot independence. The vocals too were appealing, believable and emotional. Like I said – no weak links in this band. They ROCK!! I would highly recommend this album to all prog rock fans out there. In fact I’d recommend it to everyone who appreciates great writing, arranging and musicianship. - Indie Music Co - Reviewer: Chris Hattingh

The Dropa Stone, an alt-rock quartet from Orlando, Fla., has that sort of sound Asheville might make should our buildings have mouths: hypnotic and soulful, innovative, yet catchy. Most notable for putting together a memorable, live performance are its individual, energetic members: Jon Meyers on vocals and guitar, Justin Henry on lead guitar, Will Richey on bass guitar, and Joe Lederman on drums. The band’s distinct voice, a fusion of refreshingly sporadic melodies, crosses several genre-boundaries including rock, funk, and R&B. According to their website, members of the Dropa Stone draw inspiration from such bands as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Sound Garden, and Incubus. The band’s first, self-titled album, The Dropa Stone E.P., was released July 24, 2008 to positive reviews.
While on tour promoting their new album, Starry Messenger, the Dropa Stone is scheduled to “dropa” by The One Stop on Saturday, Feb. 18, opening for local duo StereoFidelics.

Starry Messenger, the new CD from local Orlando band The Dropa Stone is art. The band’s complex musical arrangements incorporate a variety of musical influences into their music, taking the music beyond just an aural experience for listeners. The band members pride themselves on their musical diversity, and the nine Groove Rock based songs on Starry Messenger reflect that, without taking the music so far off the grid that it would only appeal to a select number of music fans.
For the most part, the multi-layered songs on this CD can be classified as Psychedelic/Neo-Progressive Rock music with a definite classic feel, like the opening songs “Vectors” and “Red Cloud.” The song “Other Worlds Than These” takes a more modern Alternative course, but finishes with a mixed Alternative/Progressive jam. The shimmering “Salsa Verde” and steady-beating “Kinski’s Spiral” also finish with lavishly textured jams.
Then, just as the listener feels confident that they have the band’s sound pegged, along comes “Catfish Blues,” a flat out Blues song, as terrific as it is surprising in its appearance. The CD closes with the sweeping, modern Rock “Sandcastles,” that combines bits of various elements such as distorted vocals, chunky guitars, and synthesizer.
While most bands that incorporate such a variety of diverse sounds into their music will get bogged down under the weight, the members of The Dropa Stone embrace the versatility and thrive, creating their unique sound and using it to their advantage. Starry Messenger will make a terrific addition to anyone’s CD collection.
Starry Messenger was produced by the band and Justin Beckler, an Orlando based singer/songwriter/musician/producer who is garnering quite a name for himself as a producer with several high quality/top rated CDs released under his tutelage, including this one.
While awaiting the CD release, music fans can check out the band on their official site, Reverbnation, Facebook page, You Tube channel, and Twitter feed.

Known for bringing in top notch music and many independent bands on the rise, Bardot has become one of the more popular music venues in Miami. I had the pleasure of coming out to see The Dropa Stone perform at Bardot Miami on Thursday September 22nd. Bardot’s long room decor with unique artwork, stylish couches and a great sound system was a great environment to see the band.
One can best describe The Dropa Stone as having a a solid experimental rock foundation, while sprinkling in progressive grooves with seeds of blues, reggae and funk. I was immediately struck with the strong musicianship and passion the band performs with. The band rolled through strong originals and even performed a funky version of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” which got the crowd dancing. The vocal and guitar interplay between Jon Meyers (vocals & guitar) and Justin Henry (guitar) was a breath of fresh air to watch, while the rhythm section Will Richey (bass) and Joe Lederman (drums) held it together with some really tight grooves. The set showcased their original music with some spirited jams. The crowd loved every minute of it and there is anticipation for their next Miami show.
The band has a new album coming soon and fans can check out some new music at their web site: www.TheDropaStone.com. - Progsnobs.com

"With echo-ey riffs and an eclectic feel, The Dropa Stone's self titled six song E.P. distances itself from the cookie cutter clones of modern rock. In fact, this is one of those bands that is difficult to place in one particular genre. Fusing and "jamming" a variety of musical styles, The Dropa Stone writes and performs in such a way that damns the cliches. The songs here are instrumentally and vocally first rate, bringing a fresh new sound to a stale rock environment. The production, mix and mastering, done by Justin Thomas of Gridlock Studios, is ahead of the class.
Definitely deserving of your ears!" - Connections Magazine

"This past Saturday, rock trio THE DROPA STONE performed and headlined a 4th of July Festival in Orlando, Florida. Sponsored by Budweiser, TGI Fridays and Make a Wish Foundation, the day was filled with live music, spinning DJ’s, prize raffles and all sorts of surprises. Large crowds, vendors and staff were treated to an inspired hour ½ set by the trio, who showcased their virtoustic chops, high energy performance and improvised jams throughout the evening.
The Dropa Stone relied on front man Jon Meyers’ signature, unique vocals and psychedelic guitar work. Drummer Joe Lederman’s precise fills and multi-faceted grooves, combined with bassist Tony Barbieri’s sweet, savvy and melodic bass licks, allowed the band to display a keen sense of musical intellect, going from heavy rock, to blues, to jazz, to reggae and even performing a snippet of a classic Led Zeppelin tune, “How Many More Times.” This medium of dynamics and musical diversity is greatly missed in the modern rock scene. If one would have closed their eyes, you would not believe you were listening to a three piece band.
After speaking to the band backstage, it was evident that the trio’s chemistry isn’t limited to their live performance. “Playing outdoors is always fun, especially when you get to watch the sun set as you play,” said singer/guitarist Jon Meyers. Drummer Joe Lederman echoed those sentiments; “It definitely enables you to enter a state of musical harmony and create that 4th element onstage, said Lederman.
During the final song, a piece titled “Vectors,” the band went into a ferocious other worldly conclusion which took everyone by surprise. Utilizing avant-garde techniques with percussion and effects pedals, they mimicked sounds one would hear during an intense fireworks display."
It was most definitely a July 4th to remember!

THE DROPA STONE PLANNING TO RECORD NEW ALBUM IN 2010
Known for their avant-garde sound, rock quartet
THE DROPA STONE announced plans on Wednesday to enter the studio in the late spring to record a full length album of new material.
Music News Wire reports the band is currently writing and preparing dozens of new songs to include on a new album that will showcase the group’s musical versatility, chops and song writing. According to singer/guitarist Jon Meyers, the songs have been pouring out a rapid rate and touch on several genres, including strong elements within their rock sound; reggae, jazz, blues and funk.
The band recently introduced Justin Henry as a permanent member prior to their travels in the west coast, which saw them perform at venues such as the Viper Room in West Hollywood, California. Taking the role of lead guitarist, Henry brings his blues, jazz and progressive rock roots into the fold. Henry performed live and wrote sporadically with the members for more than year before officially announcing his permanent involvement with The Dropa Stone.
Meyers revealed the band’s focus currently is on song writing and preparing for the album, but said to be on the lookout for select show dates around Florida and the Southeast through the summer. Fans may get a small glimpse at some of the new songs, but Meyers warned the majority will be held under lock and key until the release date. Small teaser clips showing some of The Dropa Stone’s new songs have been posted online at the bands Youtube, Facebook and Myspace pages.
“We are really excited to enter the studio in the spring and show everyone what we have been working on the last couple of months. We have evolved immensely since our days as a trio and the initial E.P. We are really focused on the song writing and execution. I think fans will be very pleased,” Meyers said. - Music News Wire, Artist PR, Think Media

Playing live will be The Dropa Stone. Made up of Jon Meyers on vocals/guitar, Will Richey on bass, Joe Lederman on drums and Justin Henry on guitar, perhaps the best description of Dropa would be virtuoso rock.
We're not talking anything as technically insane as Dream Theater here, but these dudes can seriously shred (and some might say theirs is a more melodically --inclined sort of sound). Take those chops and add a distinct notoriety for tearing it up live, and that sounds like a damn good show." - Miami New Times Magazine
"The Dropa Stone is based on a historical mystery regarding archeologists in 1938," explained singer/guitarist Jon Meyers regarding his bands name. "We have been asked this question so many times due to the mystery behind our name, that we created a web site (www.myspace.com/TDSMystery) with tons of information, pictures and videos regarding The Dropa Stones."
Here in Orlando, The Dropa Stone is a musical trio consisting of Meyers, bassist Tony Barbieri and drummer Joe Lederman--- who apply their creative prowess to establish a powerful live show highlighted by melodic vocals, spacey-textured guitar and an inventive punching rythym section. The Dropa Stone takes its listeners through a diverse musical background ranging from experimental hard rock, funk, blues and jazz.
The band recently finished up their debut E.P., which was produced by Justin Thomas at Gridlock Studios. "Recording the album was an enlightening and satisfying experience which we gained a lot from, musically and spirtually," said Meyers. "We hope our music will spread positive energy and be a catalyst for change in the current musical paradigm."
