Debut gig for The Boosts

IT might have been the first gig, but THE BOOSTS debuted at the Ceol Mor, Inverness on Sunday night with a fistful of hit songs that already sound like a must-have album for our times.

Short, snappy, they also include killer hooks as in First Met You On The Backstairs "we go way back", its wail still humming away in your head three days later.
The twin focus of former 28 Jacks frontman Jake Bolt and ex-Jyrojet Colin Fraser is an attention-grabbing concept. Bassist Paul Elliott - surely one of the most in-demand musicians on the current Inverness scene - stands to the side to let the show play out. On drums, Mark Williamson is rock-solid.
The Oasis labelling would still be a valid putdown for these inheritors of the Jyrojet/28 Jacks legacy, if only for the vocalists' look.
But it fits the music which majors on short, snappy rock songs like She's Mental, Nut and Uya with singalong choruses and likeable rock melodies.
Though it was appropriate that the old ghosts of The Now/Jyrojets/28 Jacks were hovering around the ether for the Halloween night unveiling of The Boosts', the band is definitely all about new life.

Bio
In the short time The Boosts have been together they have generated a huge local following, and their debut gig was named one of the Highland News gigs of the year (alongside The Editors, Amy MacDonald, Rod Stewart and Rockness). Their second live outing saw the band sell out Inverness’s Mad Hatters, and proved that the bands unique brand of direct to fan marketing (making each new song recorded available instantly as a free downloads to their mailing list members) was a smart move, as the crowd sang every chorus as if the tracks were receiving steady airplay.
2011 has also been a success so far, the band are set to play the Sound City stage at ROCKNESS as well as the industry showcase goNORTH 2011 and are one of the featured artists on HAIL Music’s direct to industry Download Card 2011, which will be promoted at events such as goNORTH, SXSW, Musexpo, In The City and Celtic Connections. The Boosts also recently played the International Pop Overthrow festival in Liverpool which included 2 sets at the world famous Cavern Club (the 2nd being a personal invite from the Festival promoter) to rave reviews! The band also recently supported the Dykeenies, playing the inaugural GoSurf showcase event in Thurso and have just completed a successful short tour of Scotland.
