"Andaz West Hollywood Puts Out the 'Please Rock!' Sign with New Music Nights"

The Andaz West Hollywood hotel, formerly known as the “Riot Hyatt” for its infamous rock and roll parties and guests, has partnered with The Roxy Theatre and the Playlist Generation to unveil two new unique music programs that celebrate its music history.

The hotel recently partnered with The Roxy Theatre to launch Pillow Talk & Under the Covers Sessions this month. But don’t worry. There’s no sleepy “do not disturb” lullabies happening here. This monthly night of music may be acoustic, but it knows how to rock with featured bands showcasing their cover versions of classic songs from some of the iconic bands and musicians who have stayed on the property (remember The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Little Richard, John Lennon?).

Following each show, a streaming Podcast will be available at UnderTheCoverSongs.tumblr.com, which will include the performance, a “Pillow Talk” conversation with the band, and a photo gallery by local photographers.

The inaugural Under The Covers session took place Jan. 11 and featured a crowd-pleasing performance by punk-pop rockers The Bolts, who added their signature sound to hits including "This Boy" and "Twist & Shout" from The Beatles and "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet.

Continuing the music theme, Andaz has also partnered with The Playlist Generation to create special DJ nights at the property, including the Wine Down Wednesdays DJ party and happy hour. Members of The Playlist Generation have toured the world as DJs and musicians with artists like Kanye West, The Killers and The Cure. Andaz will debut spotlight DJ sessions curated by The Playlist Generation in the lobby, restaurant and rooftop pool.

For more information about Andaz West Hollywood, and to stay informed of upcoming shows and events, be sure to follow Facebook.com/AndazWestHollywood and @AndazWeHo.

"Local teen rock band to play Verizon amphitheater"

My, how the Bolts have grown.
Months ago the young rockers were splashing in the small pond, emitting melodies for pennies from some of the dinkiest stages in the county.

BLUES BROTHERS: Farmer brothers, Addam, 19, left, and Heath, 18, right, sing back up along with their band "The Bolts."
STACY SCHWED, CONTRIBUTING PHOTOGRAPHER

Now, not only are they are on semiregular radio rotation and in the sights of a major record label, but the Irvine-based quintet gets the chance to share the bill with some of their sonic forerunners on Saturday at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
Indie-turned-pop acts Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance and All-American Rejects, among others, are headlining the weekend-long Bamboozle Left festival.
Among this crowd the Bolts' sound snugly fits. Their first album, "Like a Fantasy," won't be released for awhile, but demo versions of the songs on MySpace provide a glimpse into their accessible, up-tempo style, with layers of vocal harmonies.
The band got a shot to play Bamboozle after winning a fierce, two-month long contest. Six stages of simultaneous music at the festival means that many of the bands will be crisscrossing each other, leaving ticketholders to make some tough decisions about who and who not to check out.
That lessens the pressure to please, said bassist and singer Addam Farmer, the sole high school graduate in the band.
"Even if we happen to screw up, we have lots of other stuff to redeem ourselves," he said.
Stuff like looking down at vast audiences, releasing a record and shedding that "kid" label for good.

"The Bolts is the hottest boy band in Southern California"

The Bolts are an indie rock band generated from the OC. With energy filled guitar riffs and sharp vocals, it’s no surprise that the band has left an impact in their wake. Composed of five members – Addam Farmer, Ryan Kilpatrick, Austin Farmer, Matt Champagne, and Heath Farmer – the Bolts have already performed in over 250 shows, regardless of the fact that the band is only three years young.

The band has been called “a cross between The Killers and Muse with a dash of Beach Boys thrown in” (OC Register, Robert Kinsler [2008]), as well as “young and energetic” (NBC Los Angeles, Elisa Ramos [2010]). The Bolts have obtained the kind of success that unknown artists would kill for – quick success, based solely on their sound.

The Bolts rose to local fame when they were featured on KROQ FM’s local hour, and soon their songs were being broadcasted on the rock station regularly, in addition to being played on college radio stations. However, The Bolts experienced their big break when they won the 2008 “Bamboozle Break” competition that landed them a spot in Bamboozle Left, an two day music festival held once a year in California. The band was then awarded “Best Pop Artist” at the OC Music Awards the following year.

Their unique, catchy style had led them to gain the attention of Andy Johns, a producer known for his work with bands such as Van Halen and Led Zeppelin. Together, they produced three original songs that showcased the band’s talent. The boys have succeeded in releasing two albums – the first, “Like a Fantasy”, was produced early 2008, and after having partnered with producer/songwriter Keith Everette Smith, the second – “Play the Music” – was released in September of this year. The Bolts have also been selected to perform at Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Terrace and Downtown Disney stages – and are the youngest ever to do so.

Southern California’s explosive modern rock-pop act, The Bolts, are set to release back-to-back seasonal EP’s kicking off with the release of aptly titled Fall 2012 EP on September 21. The classic yet contemporary quintet comprised of bassist and vocalist, Addam Farmer; guitarist and vocalist Heath Farmer; keyboardist and vocalist, Austin Farmer; guitarist and vocalist, Ryan Kilpatrick; and drummer Matt Champagne, is influenced by artists like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Queen, The Clash, The Killers, The Strokes, My Chemical Romance and Modest Mouse. The Bolts nonchalantly showcase stadium ready talents with confidence as if it were their birthright. Well, that’s pretty much true for siblings, Adam, Heath and Austin Farmer, who along with fellow Bolts, Matt Champagne and Ryan Kilpatrick create a powerful pop rock sound that pulsates with muscular musicianship, brilliant 4-part vocal harmonies, and multiple lead vocalists.

In the last 12 months, The Bolts have landed music licensing spots on MLB, MLB All-Star Game, MLB World Series, NASCAR, UEFA Soccer Championships, Delta Airlines, television shows, Degrassi, and Necessary Roughness, branded marketing strategic partnerships with You Rock Digital Guitars, SurfSET and Hello Music. Additionally, The Bolts catchy single “Walk Away” is featured in a new SoBe commercial, which stars Sports Illustrated cover supermodel Kate Upton. Over 4 million combined YouTube hits for this commercial.

The Bolts first experienced local success in 2007 when the band landed five demo songs on the local rock radio station, KROQ, after being together less than four months. Soon after, the band started winning local battles of the bands and other competitions, eventually leading them to earn the title of Orange County’s ‘Best Pop Artist’ from the OC Music Awards.

The Bolts have been busy playing numerous residencies and gigs in and outside of their native Orange County. In just a short period of time, The Bolts have developed an army of devoted fans who mobilize at a moment’s notice for their energetic performances from San Diego to Los Angeles, turning up in frenzied droves at their ongoing residencies at The Roxy and Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Terrace. They play about 20 shows per year at Tomorrowland Terrace, which is a residency once held by No Doubt amongst other notable OC bands, and are due to perform 10 more shows there this year. Playing in the Magic Kingdom also puts the group in front of an international audience, something that has helped boost interest in the band and broadened its social-network fan base. The performance demands have also fine-tuned them, leading to constant writing, rehearsing and learning cover songs to keep things from getting repetitive. “We do ‘Kids’ by MGMT … ‘Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked’ by Cage the Elephant … and we do some crowd favorites, classics like the Beach Boys songs. We also do a cover of Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida,’ and we took the orchestra parts and made it into total guitar and keyboard rock. People seem to really like it.”

With the release of their 2 EP’s entitled, Fall and Winter, followed by their official full-length release, The BOLTS, the time is now to take on the world on their terms—they won’t be “just another band from LA” for very long.

The Band has opened for Honor Society, Third Eye Blind, Allstar Weekend, David Cook and appeared on local TV morning shows NBC Los Angeles, KDOC and Good Day LA.

"The Bolts Strike At Tomorrowland"

Young and energetic is the best way to describe The Bolts.

They are an Irvine based pop-rock band made up by Farmer brothers -- Heath, Addam and Austin -- and their friends Ryan Kilpatrick and Matt Champagne.

The brothers founded the group after years of performing and writing music together.

Two of the members, Addam and Heath, stopped by NewsRaw to talk about their upcoming album.

"It's the missing piece of the puzzle for us. We've been waiting to translate that into recordings and this is definitely it," says Heath Farmer.

Vocalist Addam Farmer says their music is "a mix between the Beach Boys, the Killers, and Muse. A throwback four-part harmonies mixed in with new modern rock."

Last year, the group won Best Pop Artist at the 2009 Orange County Music Awards.

The Bolts have been working with Andy Johns, who's produced for legendary artists like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Joe Satriani, among others.

Their song "This Can't Be Real," is a collaboration with Johns.

"To be able to work with him was just a crazy and cool experience," said Heath Farmer.

You won't find them touring anytime soon, as two of the members are still in high school, but they perform regularly at Disneyland's Tomorrowland Terrace and Downtown Disney stages.

"Orange Pop: The Bolts are ready to break out"

Like a lot of Orange County bands, contemporary rock outfit the Bolts has hit the dreaded glass ceiling – the state of limbo where many bands who have outgrown the confines of county borders either die or break through with more mainstream success.
The group has already cut tracks with Andy Johns, famous for his production work with Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Joe Satriani, among others. Yet it still finds itself label-less and playing only local gigs, like Sunday's appearance at the annual Taste of Newport at Fashion Island, opening for "American Idol" champion David Cook.
That's a gem of a gig for the Bolts' all-age audience – so hope is hardly lost for this group of young players, whose star has steadily risen the past two years, capped by local accolades including a 2009 Orange County Music Award for best pop artist while also landing tracks on KROQ's "Locals Only" program. Their strong work ethic and dedication to the group continues to score them numerous local high-profile shows including dates at House of Blues Anaheim, Disneyland's Tomorrowland Terrace and B.B. King's Blues Club at Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles.
But the energetic quintet is eager to bust out of O.C. – especially having just wrapped work this summer at Capitol Studios in L.A. with Johns. The man who engineered "Led Zeppelin IV" and the Stones' "Sticky Fingers" – and produced the first album from new supergroup Chickenfoot – heard the Bolts through their manager and invited them into legendary Studio B, where so many records – including those of Frank Sinatra and the Beach Boys – were put down.
Vocalist-guitarist Heath Farmer says the group was ecstatic about working with such an iconic figure in music history – someone who had worked hands-on with the makers of some of their most favorite albums.
"We were a little nervous because we're a newer contemporary-style band, and he's worked with a lot of the classics, legendary artists of the '60s," Farmer says. "We weren't sure how the sound would turn out or if we'd end up being in some sort of odd-couple situation, but he's produced some of our biggest influences and it just worked out amazing. It was an honor to work with him and we hope to record the rest of the record with him shortly."
Since the Bolts had previously only recorded in the Farmer family's dining room, Farmer says the band picked up a few key production tips from working with Johns.
"It was cool because we learned a bunch of things from him, and we also got to show him a few of the newer innovations that we had come up with," he says. "It was awesome to work together like that. He really added to our sound without diverting it too much from the style of music we've been playing, and always wanted to play, so it was a really cool formula."
Although they plan to use the three songs they cut with Johns on a potential major-label debut, the band has already posted to its MySpace those tracks: "She Doesn't Know What She Means," "This Can't Be Real" and a new recording of their first disc's title track, "Like a Fantasy."
But where do the Bolts go from here? Farmer says that the guys have been approached by various record labels with offers but they remain cautious about jumping into any opportunity. Why leap at the first contract when thus far the connections the Bolts have made in the industry have afforded them the opportunity to do some pretty amazing things without major-label representation.
Since forming the band in 2007, the Farmer brothers – Heath, Addam and Austin and their friends Ryan Kilpatrick and Matt Champagne, have been soaking up all of the advice they've been given, including an unlikely nugget of wisdom that came from the head of marketing at Interscope Records.
"He told us, 'Listen guys, you can't paint a turd' and then said 'If you're good, you're good and you can't fake it'," Heath Farmer remembers. "We were like, 'OK.' It kind of came out of nowhere but it was a very blunt way of him saying 'Be good - OC Register

Orange County-based rock-pop act the Bolts’ latest single “Walk Away” is featured in a new SoBe commercial which stars Kate Upton (left), the saucy 19-year-old bikini model who recently landed the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s annual Swimsuit Edition.

"Orange Pop: The Bolts grow up, issue new EP"

It was just a couple years ago that the Bolts were nominated for best high school band at the OC Music Awards. Now, all grown up, each member — brothers Heath, Addam and Austin Farmer and friends Matt Champagne and Ryan Kilpatrick — has graduated, and the band has released a second recording, a five-song EP called Play the Music.
“Now that it’s out, we’re extremely excited,” vocalist and guitarist Heath Farmer said in a recent interview. “We have seen a lot growth, especially in Orange County. I mean, the release show at the Gaslamp in Long Beach (on the day the disc dropped, Sept. 25) — even a year ago I wouldn’t have imagined us filling the venue to capacity on just our second effort. I don’t know what else to say … other than it is just awesome.”
The EP already generated a bit of buzz on iTunes when it was in rotation on the music server’s main page the week it was released. Concrete numbers — something the Farmer boys are anxious to receive — have yet to be revealed, but Heath says fan response via the band’s social networking sites has been “huge.”
“They just jumped on it and had so much enthusiasm,” he says of the group’s loyal following. “We had people writing us saying that they had downloaded this or that song, and one guy said, ‘I just bought it 12 times on iTunes.’ We were like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s awesome.’ We can’t thank our fans enough, they are amazing.”
Though the initial push for the disc was centered on the title track, which Famer reports fared well on its own, once the entire EP was released fans quickly gravitated toward its final track, “Walk Away.”
“It’s ended up being our No. 1 song (on iTunes),” he says. “It’s the best we’ve had, even over our last album (the 2008 debut Like a Fantasy) — it’s been our top song overall.” The track, co-written and sung by Kilpatrick, “has a real raw rock influence to it. A lot of people have said that it could definitely be a breakthrough hit, but we’ll see.”
Fans will have a chance to check out the Bolts’ new music when they slip into their alter egos, the Dead Bolts, and perform Thursday night in the parking lot of the Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor Halloween attraction.
Farmer says the quintet (no longer just a “high school band”) has matured and learned a great deal about the industry — as well as themselves — over its three-year existence.
“We’re older but we stay true to what our original idea was. We are influenced by modern artists like the Killers and Muse, and we like to combine that with some of our older influences like the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. That hasn’t changed regardless of our ages. Now that I’m older, I do find myself listening to a lot of orchestral music. Not in a way that makes me lose my ‘rockin’ youth’ or anything like that. I’m just able to expand on my influences more than before and kind of lose my mind in it. I think we’re all doing that now.”
Almost since the beginning the Bolts had been offered recording contracts — especially in 2008, once their debut dropped and the band began gigging regularly at Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Terrace and scoring regular rotation on KROQ’s Locals Only program. Farmer says the guys have been cautious about its future every step of the way, going over each contract carefully — and they still haven’t felt comfortable settling.
“Right now we’re here and going full speed ahead with or without a label,” he says. “If they’d like to join us, they can, but for now we’re doing this with or without them.”
Indeed, the Bolts have done quite well without official representation — for instance, they cut three tracks at Capitol’s legendary Studio B in L.A. with producer Andy Johns, known for his work with Led Zeppelin, the Stones and Joe Satriani. Those songs are still only raw recordings, but Farmer says the band hopes to one day release them as B-sides. Play the Music, on the other hand, finds them teaming up with friend and former Saddleback Church instrumental music director Keith Everette S - OC Register

"Pick Your Poison: Thursday 6-7-12"

Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips might be in a little bit of trouble. Okay, it’s more like a slightly heated argument than anything serious (for the time being). You may recall that on their Record Store Day exclusive album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends that there was a track featuring the lovely and powerful Erykah Badu. If you’ve also been paying close attention to music sites the last couple weeks a music video for that song may have caught your eye. A very NSFW music video that features Erykah’s sister Nayrok sans clothing and bathing in a variety of liquids and such. Well surprise, surprise, I guess that video wasn’t officially “done”, or as the band says it was, “unedited and unapproved”. Oddly enough, it looked quite edited. The “unapproved” part makes more sense though. The video has been scrubbed off the internet for the time being, with the hopes of posting an “edited and approved” version next week. In the meantime, Erykah is none too pleased with how this whole thing went down. She took to Twitter with a long missive about how angry she is about that video. She seems to feel that the video was “tasteless, meaningless and shock motivated” and disrespected her as an artist. That was point one of many as to why she disapproves of that video. Hopefully they’re able to come to some sort of agreement on a final product, but in the meantime, Wayne tweeted a pretty snarky reply that included a photo of his lips covered in glitter with the comments of “I kissed it!!!!” and “Nice ass!!!!” in reference to Erykah’s sister Nayrok having her body covered in it for the video. So there’s your amusing tidbit for the day. More on that if it develops. In the meantime, here’s today’s Pick Your Poison, complete with “edited and approved” mp3s from Baby Monster, Brown Shoe (covering Springsteen), Burning Hotels, Manor, The Spring Standards and TEEN. In the Soundcloud section there’s some good streaming stuff from Family Band, Four Tet and Class of 2012 artist Blonds.

In the last 12 months, The Bolts have landed music licensing spots on MLB, MLB All-Star Game, MLB World Series, NASCAR, UEFA Soccer Championships, Delta Airlines, television shows,Degrassi, and Necessary Roughness, branded marketing strategic partnerships with You Rock Digital Guitars, SurfSET and Hello Music. Additionally, The Bolts catchy single “Walk Away” is featured in a new SoBe commercial, which stars Sports Illustrated cover supermodel Kate Upton. Over 4 million combined YouTube hits for this commercial:http://youtu.be/8pUiL_G343g

With the release of their 2 EP’s entitled, Fall and Winter, followed by their official full-length release, The BOLTS, the time is now to take on the world on their terms—they won’t be “just another band - Static 180

"The Bolts - Fall"

The Bolts - Fall (2012) Independent
Produced by The Bolts
POP / ROCK
Tracks : 1.Walk away 2.The truth 3.This can´t be real 4.We may fall
http://www.theboltsmusic.com/
3,5 out of 5

You will find traces of many genres in California based The Bolts sound such as powerpop, classic rock, modern rock and 80´s pop. The new single "Walk away" bring thoughts to The Trews and it´s a good song but the following "The truth" is stronger, I love the harmony vocals with hooks in the same vein as Elliot Minor. My favorite is the AOR-esque "This can´t be real", Robby Valentine would be proud over this song. The band close the EP with the 80´s pop of "We may fall" which is the weakest song here, it´s a band with potential and I can´t wait to hear their next EP called "Winter" which will be out in late 2012. - Roth 'n Roll

"THE BOLTS Have Strong New Release"

The Bolts "Like a Fantasy"(independent) – "Formed less than a year ago, Irvine quintet the Bolts deliver a debut that's a solid full-length effort of radio-friendly modern rock blending strong hooks and youthful themes in convincing fashion. The title track and "Hero in Disguise" are especially infectious, but tracks such as the indie rock of "Dead of the Night" and Beach Boys-tinged "The New Era (We'll See in Time)" also showcase the young band's burgeoning skills. No wonder KROQ has been playing several tracks off this excellent disc. You might like if you enjoy: The Killers, Panic at the Disco, Thrice" - OC Register/Robert Kinsler, Music Critic

Bio

The Bolts are a modern rock band who walk the fine line between classic and contemporary with enough finesse to pique the interest of even the most jaded of hipsters. Fusing the best elements of Queen, The Beach Boys, Muse and The Killers, The Bolts have created a distinct and energetic, powerful pop-rock sound that has earned them acclaim as “LA’s hottest new band, “ according to LA Weekly.

The Bolts are from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Only in the pop music suburban melting pot of Southern California could this be possible. The Bolts are the direct musical descendants of a long list of great bands such as The Eagles, Van Halen, No Doubt, and Foster The People, which were spawned along the Interstate 5 Freeway from the San Fernando Valley to the OC—and they have learned their lessons well. “The OC has a scene for almost every musical genre, and we have fans from every one of them,” explains guitarist/vocalist Heath Farmer. “I think rock music fans have been waiting for something new that doesn’t require that they conform to a scene’s standards; something organic and unrefined that says you can enjoy it whether you have a moptop or a mohawk. We are for them.”

The Bolts showcase their stadium ready talents with nonchalance and confidence as if it were all by birthright. Well, that's pretty much true for siblings, Addam, Heath and Austin Farmer, who along with fellow Bolts, Matt Champagne and Ryan Kilpatrick create a unique pop rock sound that pulsates with muscular musicianship, brilliant 4-part vocal harmonies, and multiple lead vocalists.

The Bolts Manager/Producer Guy Eckstine states, "I saw an urgency and rawness to their live performances that I wanted to capture on record, and I felt I needed to rough it up a bit in the studio to reflect that attitude. The results are impressive."
