The Black Rainbows
I Met This Chick… EP
Independent
This homegrown Toronto-trio have definitely got enough boisterous charm. With their debut EP release, The Black Rainbows have created a new way to scare teens away from intercourse. I Met This Chick… is a compilation of strangely inappropriate songs about amateur boys with way too much sexual tension pretending they don’t give a fuck.
The sound produced along with the horribly cliché and morbid subject matter is highly reminiscent of old school British Pop/Punk. Although slightly off kilter, as a whole, this EP forces you to swivel and shake like a drunken foreigner. The energy is undeniable and the mixing turns out to be strangely clever. You get to feel the angst of the Pop/Punk, the misery of the heavy and the feel good of the country and upbeat drums.
It’s clear how very dirty and raw these gentlemen are in every aspect of their musical creation, and with some fine tuning and perhaps more grown up approach on the lyrical side The Black Rainbows have a lot of packed pubs ahead of them. But for now, just learn how to master jumping up and down with a pint in your hand and you’ll enjoy this just fine.

"The Black Rainbows have an undeniable niche for writing catchy garage rock songs. What they might lack in experience, they make up for in a volatile hooks that place them between Nirvana and The Strokes. Definitely a band to keep an eye on."

"Punk-infused garage rock combined with the inspired spirit of 70's glam makes for one lovely hell of an explosion."

"...it really is old school. It is aggressive, fast, hard, with stripped-down instrumentation and occasionally highly distorted power chords. A chorus may, and often does, include an addictive catchphrase with the type of biting humour these particular guys are renowned/notorious for."

Bio
Ever since Dave Davies decided to slice the speaker cone of his amp open back in 1964 Rock music hasn't quite been the same. With this exponential leap in spirit raw passion began to roar past technical proficiency with pure Dionysian energy.
The Black Rainbows exist in this realm. They are a band that orbits around their own singularity, so genre comparisons and simple 'sounds like' lists will prove vague and inaccurate at best; it would be optimal, instead, to speak of qualities. In this sense their sound occupies a space somewhere between the terrifying energy of The Stooges, the addictiveness of The Ramones and the abrasive beauty of Nirvana.
This is a band that's not even aware of trends, let alone one that follows them. They don't play it safe, and they're not making their music for you. The Black Rainbows make authentic, punk-tinged Garage Rock with charm, attitude and harmonies to spare, sharing more in common with early Rolling Stones than the inconsequential modern Indie Rock band du jour.
The Black Rainbows have just finished their debut EP I Met This Chick... with Toronto producer/mixer Brian Moncarz (Moneen, Circa Survive, Neverending White Lights) and mastering engineer Noah Mintz (Billy Talent, Les Breastfeeders, Stereos) for a Spring 2013 release. It's somewhat of a 'concept record,' featuring 7 original tracks that humorously tell a tale of love, lust, dread, drug trips and heartache -- all the good stuff that inspires great rock songs.
The Black Rainbows are Mike Anichini (Guitar/Vocals), Renato Carvalho (Bass/Vocals), & Sergio Santoianni (Drums/Vocals). They formed when Mike decided to drop out of school and use the rest of his student loan to buy a new guitar, an amp, a hand drum and a Sitar (being inspired by Brian Jones)...with hopes of putting it all into a record some day. The Black Rainbows have since played an impressive number of shows throughout Southern Ontario at venues like The Bovine, The Horseshoe, The El Mocambo, The Hideout, The Rivoli and The Casbah. They have also enjoyed many appearances at notable music festivals like North by Northeast, Canadian Music Fest, and S.C.E.N.E. Fest.
The music of The Black Rainbows will resonate with fans of good songs with great melodies and endless sing-along appeal. Whether live or on record, their music is delivered with such loud, anthemic single coil conviction that your ears will be left ringing.
