New Year's Revolution - 12/31/08 - In Bryan Garbe's basement, the Barely Scene throws the home-gig/New Year's party to kick off '09 on the right foot. The set up's legit - the room's lit by colorful Christmas lights, Bob Marley music bumpin' - always a warm welcome. All the local kids pack into the crowd to the point of immobility. That is, until the music starts. Once TBS begins their set, their sound permeates the crowd: boys and girls get down, scenesters get to moshing, and Keo ends up swinging from the ceiling.
Amidst all the raging, you'd be reluctant to believe that the band got together in the summer of '08. In the fall they recorded and produced their first EP, Between Poverty and Poison, and have all the ambition to continue churning out tunes for their fans, and to play for anyone and everyone who wants to listen (and perhaps dance).
This summer The Barely Scene continues forth with their full length, "The Barely Scene's Illicit Prescription For Your Existential Crisis": a kaleidoscopic view of views, exploring life, death, and everything in between; seeking to determine where the definition of one begins and the other ends. The music and its meaning carries the listener on a trip through themselves, offering more questions than answers, but nonetheless bringing you deep, deep, down into an altogether different dimension.
This world is no place for order. That is, your world, as revealed by The Barely Scene: a world which involves the exploration of perception, a world that compels you to question itself even as it stimulates your every sense.
