Westdale music hasn’t been this fresh in years. When the four members of the Abbreviations joined forces back in 2005, it was only a matter of time before things really began to click. Sharing a mutual love for Canadian indie rock, the boys quickly began carving their own niche in the Hamilton scene; somewhere between unfiltered punk rock and syrupy sweet Halifax pop. Dave Macintosh (vocals/guitar), Nick Hind-Knapp (bass), Andy van Kooy (guitar), and Fraser Malcolm (drums) instantly knew they had something special, and so did the rest of the city. Somewhere between the sweat, hair, and razor sharp licks, a new band was born. As weeks turned into months, the group landed a series of gigs opening for the likes of Tokyo Police Club, Grizzly Bear, Two Hours Traffic, the Most Serene Republic, and illScarlett, and hasn’t looked back since. After cultivating a dedicated local following in and around the Hamilton area, the band signed to upstart imprint Down by the Point Records and joined the likes of Matt Paxton, Cam Malcolm, and Cowlick on a solid and rapidly expanding roster of artists. - Toronto Music Plus Press

Bio
After spending weeks at headquarters in the farthest reaches of Westdale, Andy, Dave, Fraser and Nick emerged with a new plan; to play music meant to be heard in speeding cars, running ear buds, and brick walled basements. Thus, The Abbreviations set out and crusaded to continue the lush tradition of Canadian Indie Rock. Coming to fruition one rock stomping gig at a time, they have developed and honed a booming live sound alongside such acts as Arkells, Two Hours Traffic, Grizzly Bear, Tokyo Police Club, and The Most Serene Republic. Currently recording demos in preparation for their next studio release, The Abbreviations love to play shows in clubs, festivals, bars, pubs and house parties (for booking, email the_abbreviations@hotmail.com).
