Jeff Lanier, creator of LabelRecruit.com, a site designed to help expose musical talent, will be one of the guest speakers participating in a roundtable discussion.
"For me, when I'm looking for artists, the people who are playing festivals are good, because they've already been embedded," said Lanier. "They've already been funneled through. We're in an age where more music is being made than ever; we need more levels of funneling. The 100 artists that perform during the festival were chosen by the festival organizers from thousands of submissions.
Jesse Sample, the lead guitarist of high-energy rock band The 7th Squeeze, was at the first Move Music Festival with his band last year, and they are returning this year.
"Last year, we did the festival and we had a really, really good time. I was really impressed with the caliber of musicians," said Sample.
As an independent artist, Sample has a firm grasp on the current landscape of music made without major representation. "The whole scene is indie; these big, humongous record companies aren't as powerful anymore. (Move) is what you have when you don't sign with big record companies."
Events like Move can create connections between artists and fans that are negotiated without the help of major music companies.
Move also presents a chance for the many emerging local artists to step into the spotlight.
Bernie Walters, the creator and CEO of Move Music Festival, designed the event so about a third of all performance slots are reserved for talent originating from Albany. Albany, specifically, was a big part of the conception of Move.
"I felt there was a void in this area for something like this," he said. "I realize how much potential is in this area, there's so much talent. It's just such a great crossroads."
Bob Tulipan, a veteran in the music production world, will kick off the event on Saturday with a keynote address at noon. Tulipan has worked with the likes of Gloria Estefan, The Go-Gos, The Police and others. - Times Union

The 7th Squeeze to appear at the Apple Retail Store, Crossgates Mall, Albany, NY June 1st 2012, 7PM!
A hot, young band that is sweeping the Northeast from New Hampshire to Manhattan appears live at the Apple Retail Store to show you how Mac tools have been essential to building their success. Their recent 3-song EP, Can't Walk on Love, is currently available on iTunes.
Go behind-the-scenes with The 7th Squeeze. Jesse Sample, guitarist and songwriter, will speak about his use of a Mac in creating music. He’ll review his process, beginning with the inception of a concept that he refines and arranges with Garageband, to the final embellishments added during rehearsals, that result in the completed song. After demonstrating how the song was developed, the band, fronted by award-winning vocalist Nick Horace, will perform the finished songs live. You’ll witness the "before and after" of the music of the 7th Squeeze.
The band will also discuss how they use, iPhone video, and create promotional materials, such as posters and album art using Mac products. The 7th Squeeze has relied on Mac products and tools through each step of their rise to a regionally-prominent band, and in the production and release of all their music.
Come on out! Hear some great music, get the inside scoop, and learn how you can make your art come to life with Mac tools. Make tracks to the Apple Store in Crossgates Mall, June 1st, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The 7th Squeeze, with Saint Rose music industry student Gary Ljungquist on bass, entertained the crowd with a high-energy set, sprinkled with pop covers including “Lady Marmalade,” in which front man Nick Horace impressively mimicked the roles of all five divas who contributed to the 2001 cover of the hit. - The Saint Rose Chronicle

Singer Nick Horace and guitarist Jess Sample are the 7th Squeeze. The band has been together since 2007, led by Sample, who writes about life's trials and tribulations in songs like the anxious teen love ode "Daddy's Worst Nightmare" or ominous "Soul Survivor," where brittle guitars battle lush keyboards sounds as Horace's powerful ready-for-radio voice floats above the mix.
Sample was the singer for the first edition of the band, but after a mutual friend suggested a meeting, offered the dreadlocked Horace the job of fronting the band before he even heard him sing a note, solely on the rock star impression he made when he walked in the room.
As you well know, instinct overrides ear in rock 'n' roll, and it was a perfect pairing. Sample felt his songs now had a fighting chance, and the two have been going full-speed-ahead ever since, with gigs, a digital-only release called "Can't Walk on Love" and a nifty video for their song, "Hitsong," while they creatively work on funding for their next recording.

Bio
The 7th Squeeze is a hot young band with big city polish, featuring vocalist Nick Horace, a former two-time Top Dog winner at New York City's iconic Apollo Theatre. This high energy band delivers rock that stomps, vocals that sizzle, and excitement that blows the roof off. From the moody melody and soul-searching lyrics of 'Ish', to the pounding rock anthem 'Hit Song', this is music that will rattle your cage. When it rocks, its ruthless. When it swings, it stings.
While Nick handles the microphone, his partners include Jesse Sample as lead guitarist and songwriter, Tim the Witchdoctor Brosnan on percussion, and Gary Ljungquist on bass. Their drive and excitement for their craft, along with hours of careful preparation, keep the band tight, well-honed, and ready to deliver; while their personable and fun-loving presentation make them a crowd favorite.
The 7th Squeeze's signature collision of rock, pop, soul and r&b, fueled with Nick Horace's ready-for-radio vocals, delivers a sound like nothing you have ever heard before!
Meet The Band
Nicholas Horace, the singer for the group, is our optimist; Nick loves people. Nicholas has performed several times at the famed Amateur Night at the Apollo, and took home two wins. He started singing in the choir as a boy in Texas, and he still retains that soulful connection to every song he performs.
Jesse Sample, the songwriter and guitarist for the group, lives and breathes music. Any moment in his life can provide fuel for his songwriting efforts. Jesse is a happy man when he is in his kitchen with a cup of joe, a guitar and a fresh idea.
Tim The Witchdoctor Brosnan is the percussionist, and keeps track of the finances. Tim has a large following of friends and fans; no gig is complete without ending up at Tims place for a party.
Gary Ljungquist is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and engineer hailing from Putnam County, NY. He plays bass with the group, but is also getting involved in the production end of things. Gary has performed with a number of regional and national acts; and now devotes his energy to the 7th Squeeze.
