Bio
Terry Maxwell, songwriter
Terry Maxwell was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and moved to Toronto in his early 20’s. At that time, he embarked on his musical career, including regular performances in local bars and opening his own recording studio. In 1992, he was awarded a FACTOR grant. The songs that he produced with that grant were included on a compilation CD of various Canadian artists. His songs “Half A Chance” and “She’s Not The Only One” received national airplay, including locally on Mix 99.9fm in Toronto.
Terry’s connection to music has never wavered. In 2003, he developed the concept of Heart-2-Heart Songs (www.heart2heartsongs.ca). The idea of composing original songs and then personalizing them for individuals and recording them is a unique concept, one that customers responded to with great enthusiasm. While there are a handful of companies offering similar services on the Internet, none offered the superior radio-quality sound that Terry produced.
Although he enjoys performing, Terry’s primary interest is songwriting. The satisfaction gained by creating music and lyrics that people can relate to and enjoy is the motivating factor that keeps him writing. His music influences in the early years were the great singer-songwriter era artists like The Beatles, Cat Stevens and James Taylor. Recently, a trip to Nashville rekindled a long time interest in country music and has been the catalyst for several of Terry’s recent songs. Country influences include Glen Campbell, Ronnie Milsap, Charlie Pride and newer artists including Collin Raye, Allison Kraus, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs, Trisha Yearwood and Dixie Chicks.
Terry’s primary writing partner is Tracey Ducharme. Tracey contributes story ideas and lyrics. Her career as a marketing consultant helps with the business aspect of promoting Terry’s songs to the industry.
Terry is a member in good standing with SOCAN, SAC, CCMA and NSAI and actively attends music workshops, conferences and festivals to meet artists and fellow writers.
