They proclaim themselves as a band that encourages citizens to riot and Team Shotgun backs up that statement with well-written and organized political punk rock on their 5 song EP Ambient Sounds of a Riot. The band blends elements of pop-punk and metal into their songs, as the EP kicks off with the up charged anthem “Murder Brings To Business” setting the tone for the rest of the album. As it’s only a five song EP, Team Shotgun seems to have it and it’s interesting to see which way the Chicago group will go with a full-length release. We are a band that plays for the people who are oppressed and have no antidote. We also play for anyone willing to open up their minds to the obscure injustice that circles our everyday lives. Yet, we don't leave out those mindless zombie-holics that continue to live fake lives and dream of even faker ones. We play for them too. We love driving around looking for places to play and encouraging club owners to give us a chance. 95% of the time, we are successful.
The band started back in 2006 with just a hope and a dream. Rich Hennessy and Matt Campbell wrote songs that related to the hundreds of kids they were in school with, attempting to give their fellow peers a chance to speak up and make a difference. They recruited bassist Jacob Stoughton after a rough night at a college near Chicago and started a quest to challenge society and the youth of America to take a good hard look at everything and, for once, actually THINK. Change is a word that is always on an individuals mind. So, we take all of the doubts and worries and wishes that builds up in an average mind and expose them, for nothing can be solved with the absence of a question.
Team Shotgun collaborates with a resistance group called The Uprising and an abundance of fans from Team Shotgun are members of this resistance. Now, The Uprising should not be something to fear or hate. It is not an anarchist cult following, nor an ignorant hoax for that matter. It is an assemblage of persons that are willing to protect our human rights and the existence of this planet. We all know we have been utterly cruel to our planet ever since the Industrial Revolution ( which, if I may say, is one of the most important accomplishments the human race has obtained ). But, there our ways to better the lives of others and ourselves. With the courage and willingness of Team Shotgun and their fans, a change can be made very easily. The gears have already been set in motion. The only left to do is to get off of the couch and aid in the action.
