Stephen Lally delivers a bit of a dance extravaganza for Polish diva Tatiana and explains the ideas behind his promo for Spider Web:
“The dramatic debut UK single for European star Tatiana gave me the perfect opportunity to mount a lyrical video that combines three passions of mine: ballet, sci-fi and high fashion. Not the most traditional of bedfellows – but a fantastic opportunity to amp up the art direction and play on Tatiana’s strengths as a performer and dancer. Tatiana was fantastic to work with – and never complained once that I coaxed her back into ballet point shoes for the first time since her teens!
“Tatiana plays the part of a mournful drifter trapped on a bleak – but beautiful – environment in space. In seemingly infinite blackness, she’s the only living thing. Forever awaiting the return of her lover, whose signal she tries to pick up on a monolithic communication device…Lost in space, lost in time. But never looking less than fabulous..!”

Poland’s Tatiana will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Esmee Denters as she strikes out from her Euro-success to the UK. Single Spider Web is a classy, sparkling bit of Pixie Lott-esque pop and has been given airplay on Graham Norton’s Radio 2 show. It’s the kind of song that if it was an entry on the Eurovision song-contest, it’d come complete with some assortment of amazing costumes and accompanying dance spectacular. And it’d probably win too – and not because it’s cheesy – but because it’s really, really good.
Tatiana’s vocals play to their more delicate side for most of the song, but there’s a real strength hiding in there too with definite echoes of Anastacia. Her album, also titled Spider Web, sees her tackling a mix of Amy Winehouse style soul and Kylie-lite disco-pop. It’s a frisky little blend and those looking to sample something a little different from your Jessie J’s and Adele’s reigning supreme over the UK charts at the moment would do well to check it out.
Spider Web is released on the 18th April.

Though 'Spider Web' (pictured) is the debut UK single for Polish singer Tatiana, we've been assured by her British publicists that the track will get a global digital release in the middle of next month.
'Spider Web' has been produced by two gents who've worked with the likes of Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Eternal, Craig David, Gary Barlow - and even Alicia Keys, while the man on the mix is Mister Jeremy Wheatley, who's reworked tracks by everyone from Alison Moyet to Duffy and even Pixie Lott. So it's got a pretty amazing pop pedigree.
And though Tatiana grew up listening to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Chaka Khan, Robert Plant and Janis Joplin, it's in the world of pop music that she's now found her home.
Her forthcoming LP has been described as "a classic pop album" containing a variety of styles.
In the meantime, clap your ears and eyes around 'Spider Web' the single and keep an eye out for its release via iTunes on Monday April 18.

Tatiana is my new Euro-pop obsession. The stunning diva hails from Poland, where she is apparently quite a big deal - having fronted a popular band called Blue Café before going solo. After conquering Eastern Europe, Tats was up for a new challenge. So she packed her PVC catsuit and caught the next plane to London. Her first UK release is called "Spider Web" and it's adorable. A pretty mid-tempo pop song about holding on until the bitter end of a relationship, the original version is definitely worth a listen. However, for me, the ridiculously camp 7th Heaven remix cannot be beaten. .....

Polish pop siren Tatiana is ready to let you have it.
Here with her first international single ‘Spider Web’ – which made its UK debut last week on BBC Radio 2 – the pop singer is not only giving elegant pop balladry but she’s dishing it up with plenty of sparkle and poise....

If you haven't heard of Tatiana Okupnik...that's probably because she's virtually unknown in the English speaking world...until now, that is. 2011 just may be the year that changes everything for this talented Polish singer/songwriter who is prepping for her UK debut on April 10th via Upside Records Tatiana's debut single, "Spider Web" is a stunning power pop ballad that serves as the perfect introduction to this talented artist from Eastern Europe. Produced by Tim Hutton (Amy Winehouse, Bat For Lashes) "Spider Web" has been remixed for it's radio debut by Jeremy Wheatley (Leona Lewis, Duffy)..... - Music Is My King Size Bed
Polish born pop music singer Tatiana Okupnik has been riding a tidal wave of success lately as she prepares to release her debut solo album. She has performed all over London and her single, “Spider Web,” already has a remix that is tearing up European LGBT dance clubs. As a part of successful Polish act Blue Cafe, she became a massive television and radio personality back in her homeland but now she’s ready to launch herself internationally, stopping by lots of gay pride events on her way.
Here she talks with CherryGRRL about her evolution into an even larger star… - Cherry Grrl
Polish singer Tatiana Okupnik started her recording career in band Blue Cafe in the 2000s then released her first solo album in Poland in 2007. Moving to England last year she began working on this album with writer-producer Tim Hutton, who has previously worked with the likes of The Prodigy and Ian Brown.
Tatiana's vocals are soulful and seductive, while musical styles range from laidback jazz in 'Tranquility', to pop in first single, ‘Spider Web’, and then dons a rose between the teeth for the tango of ‘World of My Design’. ‘Coming My Way’closes the album in show-stopping style a la Dame Shirley Bassey. Well-crafted songs and slick production prove that Tatiana is a classy act.
Review by Lisa Allen - GaydarNation
Gaining traction on queer radio stations worldwide, the 7th Heaven remix of Polish singer Tatiana’s debut international single, Spider Web, suggests a lovably cheesy Euro popette one could file alongside Agnes and September. Her album tells a different, more sophisticated, story. Opener Bottom Line sets the mood — sultry verses give way to an infectious chorus, backed by strings and horns. It’s unashamedly pop, but with more of an Amy Winehouse influence than your usual Euro dance divas. There’s no Australian physical release date set for the album yet, but check iTunes for the single and visit www.tatianaofficial.com for updates. - WordPress
On first meeting Tatiana I wondered how someone so petite can produce such powerful vocals.
But Tatiana Okupnik, who born in Lodz, Poland in 1978 has had to be strong since she was a youngster because life was certainly tough....... - Women Talking Enterprises
When one thinks of Poland, popstars are not what instantly spring to mind. But hot on the heels of UK chart success like her fellow Eastern European Inna, is Tatiana. But unlike a lot of these exported, somewhat faceless ladies from unpronouncable regions afar, Tatiana is already an established solo artist back in her native country. She first rose to fame as part of the music group Blue Café who represented Poland for Eurovision in 2004 where she ‘wore a revealing see-through dress which was darkened at the inappropriate places’, according to Wikipedia. Her first UK single, ‘Spider Web’, is a lovely slice of unpretentious pop, and the 7th Heaven remix is so brilliantly Nineties-sounding that you’ll swear you can see Princess Diana shimmying through the haze of poppers when it inevitably gets blasted in a club near you. We had a chat with the lady herself to find out more. - So So Gay
‘Spider Web’ is the debut UK single by Polish superstar Tatiana Okupnik and is a perfect introduction to her individual style of power-pop and strong signature vocals.
Produced by Denis Ingoldsby (N Dubz, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Eternal) and Andy Murray (Gary Barlow, Craig David, Alicia Keys) at Granary Studio in Kent, the single has been remixed by Jeremy Wheatley (Leona Lewis, Skunk Anansie, Duffy, Corinne Bailey Rae, Pixie Lott).
Born in Lodz in Poland, Tatiana grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and the best of western rock and pop on cassettes recorded from Radio Luxembourg and the BBC and was inspired by great vocalists such as Chaka Khan, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner and Robert Plant "The thing that unites the artists I love is that they understand big, emotional musical vocals. I would like to think that the emotional impact of my voice is big like some of my idols".
A former ballerina (Tatiana studied ballet at the National School of Ballet), when painful bones ended those dreams she focused her attention on her music.
As the lead singer of the Polish band Blue Café she enjoyed platinum records and became a massive star in her homeland and toured throughout central Europe.
In 2006 Tatiana went solo and, in addition to graduating from university with fluent English, French and Spanish, she recorded an album in New York with jazz-funk legend Lenny White - ‘On My Own’ went gold on its 2007 release in Poland. Tatiana has also hosted two series of the Polish Dancing On Ice TV show and recorded a CD with Wyclef Jean.
The little girl who recalls having no shoes as a child and queuing each month for a ration of toilet paper (we would have the paper on a chain around our necks; we called it the Polish Louis Vuitton bag) has now cast her gaze to Britain.
"Britain is the centre of European music. I love my Polish fans and, of course, I hope they love the new music, but I also hope I can reach out to a whole new audience here in the UK."
‘Spider Web’ is the title track of Tatiana’s debut UK album; with the exception of the first single, the album was written and produced at Sarm West studios in London with Tim Hutton (Amy Winehouse, Bat For Lashes, Ian Brown and the man who, according to Andy Cato, 'put the groove into Groove Armada”'.
With nods to funk, jazz, soul and rock Tatiana has recorded 'a classic pop album with great songwriting and a cool twist. I’ve put my heart and soul into it'.
Her powerful voice is the common thread through a filmic record that houses the Latino and Eastern European influenced ‘World Of My Design’, singalong stadium pop (‘Supersize Love’ and ‘Poor Love’), smooth and summery jazz pop (‘Tranquility’ and ‘If I Was To Tell You’), funk (‘Bottom Line’), a Bassey-esque showstopper (‘Coming My Way’) and the laidback soul of (Been A Fool’).
Tatiana’s first UK performance will be at the Wardrobe Club in Leeds on March 3rd when she will premiere tracks from the album. Her powerful vocals and impressive range coupled with her massive stage presence make Tatiana and natural and passionate performer.
"Performing live is what I love more than anything, and a big part of writing these tracks was imagining their live impact. These songs will really come alive in Leeds, and I can't wait."
