When Tashwin Talukder took the stage at the Opera House in Toronto last month, she flipped her waist-length hair, flashed the audience a knowing smile and belted out a tune in a voice so big, it belied her tiny frame.
Dressed in a black leather mini skirt, crop top and thigh high stockings, she might lead one to assume she's the progeny of rock stars, born to strut the stage in black leather and lace.
In fact, Talukder, 28, was born into a conservative, political family in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where she grew up wearing mostly cultural clothing — the shalwar kameez, crafted to her design specifications by local tailors. And when she did experiment with western styles, they tended to cover more skin.
"Over there we can't wear really revealing stuff so I would probably wear a white T-shirt and jeans and put something on top that would complement it, like shawls," says Talukder, who moved to her husband's hometown of Hamilton seven years ago where she began her studies in broadcast journalism.
Now working as an intern at CHCH, Talukder is soaking up Canadian culture as much as she can. When she's not in the newsroom, she's working on her music (she recently dropped her first video, Love Escape) and on just generally being Instafabulous, posting fashion-themed photos and videos on various social media sites. She aspires to one day produce her own lifestyle magazine-style TV show back in Bangladesh with a focus on entertainment, music and fashion. - Sheryl Nadler

Tashwin is a veteran in music, as she's been in performance from her young age. Tashwin played in a lot of underground shows in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Canada with various bands (Eclipse, Fly,D.H her collaborations with other friends in The Black Portrait .
Tashwin was into music since she was 7 years old.She picked up her musical passage at 15 all over again like many teens make, Tashwin’s first appearance with ECLIPSE(BD) with her guest appearance on the COF track, nymphetamine, and while that, she joined fly and D.H, also did gigs with SENTINELS, formed her own band THE BLACK PORTRAIT, but for attending college and for personal reason she eventually ended up in Canada where her musical ventures didn't stop, Tashwin joined AETHERBORN for 3 months, then RED GENERAL for a year. Through the musical process Tashwin realized that she wants to go solo as a musician to walk around her musical preferences and opportunities and write own songs and go in her own desired direction. Her new single is now released with a music VIDEO CALLED "LOVE ESCAPE" Love Escape is a sensational debut SINGLE by Tashwin, covering the spontaneity of love to its fleeting personality.
