"Representing The FrivLife movement Swolf does what his name is, Flows, backwards, forwards, the kid can rap. The movement behind him is growing as well and Friv shows consistently draw crowds. He's been opening up for major acts in the area for a while and if the proper moves are made, we see him and The Friv being able to grow nationally." - dmvDIRECT

1. What is the hip hop scene in VA like? Is it blinged out like some of the bigger regions, or is there a more singular vibe at parties & battles in VA you can’t get anywhere else? To be honest I’m not sure what to think of the hip hop scene here, being from the Northern side I am technically looked at as a “DMV” artist. There’s nothing flashy about it just a lot of talented artist trying to find their identity and I feel as a VA artist we are overlooked in some ways.
2. How did you connect with St. James The Pro to get such top-notch production on the EP? We actually met at a Beat Battle. He was one of the 1st contestants and the 1st beat he played just really caught my attention. I introduced myself after his set and he told me he’s going to New York and that he’ll be back. I thought he was giving me the run-around but about 2 weeks later he hit me up like he said he would, told me he had checked out some of my previous work and was impressed. The rest was history really.
3. Your EP has 8 tracks…does that mean we should expect a super extended LP at some point? Of course, all of that will come in time right now I’m working of a couple different projects and ideas. The next project you can look forward to is from my rap collective FrivGang we’ll be dropping that around the end of spring.
4. You use tons of guest lyricists here, are they all part of your squad or have you been pulling heads from all over for this joint? FrivGang is the squad, FRIVLIFE is the lifestyle. S/O to JSalt, CB Slaya, and Mike Beastly.
5. “3 years hiatus” begins the info on the EP? Anything you want to say about it? Did it change you as a rapper and an American? I literally made that up as I was uploading the New Vegas. It had been 3 years since my previous mixtape. A LOT happened in those 3 years outside of music, a lot of ups and downs but that little brief write up represents my growth and reintroduction to the world. I like to tell people “New Vegas” was just a small piece of what’s in store from the team
6. Do you feel MCs have a place in the EDM explosion we’re currently seeing? Or is it all about back to basics hip hop? Man just make dope music, if it sounds good go with it if it don’t GET IT THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!
7. Where do we go from here? Got any live shows or a tour planned to get people hype about the EP? Still working on some dates but as of right now I can say I will be at SXSW this year and I will be on a pretty big stage but that will be announced in the coming weeks, I will also be participating in this year’s EpicFest down in Richmond.
8. Who were you on when you were coming up? Anyone who helped your sound become what it is today? Besides the heavy hitters rap has seen since 09 I was focused on the local scene. Nobody really helped me on my sound I think that just came from constantly listening to my music. I RARELY listen to myself for enjoyment its mainly to critique myself whether it be the flows, delivery, beat selection, the mix, specific instruments etc…
9. Is there anyone in the game right now that is doing stuff that blows you away? Someone in your crew or across the country? Nah not really and that’s not to take away from whatever it is other artists are doing Im just focus on my team, growing our fanbase organically and traveling the world.
10. Do you feel that hip hop artists have a responsibility to stand with the protesters in Ferguson/around the country, or is that something that you can’t touch at the moment because of the grind? No I don’t believe artist have a responsibility I feel like that’s a personal decision to participate in these protests. If that’s something you want to do then do it but make sure it’s for the right reasons not a publicity stunt.
Bonus: Favorite track or mixtape of 2014? Travis Scott’s “Days before Rodeo” was in heavy rotation. - Terry Gotham
VA’s own Swolf returns this week with new visuals for “Crime,” another stand out off of New Vegas, his collaborative tape with St. James The Pro. With a beautiful backing track, Swolf tells a story through his rhymes on the track, with the black & white video showing the story to match. Didn’t Bel Biv Devoe teach everyone not to trust a big butt and smile 25 years ago? Guess he wasn’t paying attention…
“Love hurts.” - Quinelle Holder of Hiphopsince1987.com
We had the chance to sit down and chat with up and coming rapper, SWOLF from V.A to discuss his upcoming project, producing his own music, 2015 plans along with tours and more. Check out the interview below.
1) Do you have a project releasing soon ?. Whats it titled, tell us about the meaning behind the name.
Currently I have an EP out with Maryland producer St. James The Pro called New Vegas.
Life can be a gamble
2) What can fans new and old expect from Swolf? Any big features coming?
First I want to just say S/O to everybody that’s been rocking with me if they’re old fans then they know with the release of New Vegas its been a long time coming lol. I have a few more videos to put out and the only features that you’ll be hearing soon will be from FrivGang. You can look for a project before next summer (Spoiler Alert)
3) Which track has been your favorite thus far and why?
I’d have to say its a toss up between “No Play” with my boy B.Love, he produced it as well and “Money Grabber”. I’m a diehard basketball fan really and while recording No Play it just makes me want to hoop lol. With Money Grabber its the closest song I’d say that lightly summarizes how a part of my life has been the past few years.
4) Have you ever thought about producing your own music?
Yes
5) Any videos in the works? When can we expect that to drop?
I have a few videos out now they’re all on youtube including the video for Money Grabber from New Vegas. The Next video will be for “Crime” I’ll be dropping that New Years Day
6) Being from VA, who would you say are your main influences?
Its hard to say, I don’t think I really have a main influence I keep it simple. I like to just make shit and if its dope I’ll fuck with it
7) In the future, who would you like to work with most?
Not to sound cliche but definitely Pharrell. All in all I haven’t been making music that long and though I’m more than thankful for the love I have been getting I feel I haven’t tapped into my full potential and creativity. Whether or not I get there by the time I get to work with him I feel he’d just enhance it
8) Who’s your favorite artist out right now?
JSalt, Mike Beastly, and CB the FrivGawd
9) What was your favorite tape to drop from another artist thus far in 2014?
Well this wasn’t a tape but the only joint i was bumpin heavy was that OXYMORON I also fucked with That Satellite flight and Logics Under Pressure
10) What can fans expect to see from you in the near future? Any tour plans?
Couple singles to get you all introduced to this FrivLife, multiple projects next year. Tours are in every artist plans and I can’t wait to hit the road

The homie Swolf has been droppin’ heater after heater lately, and today we finally get the culmination of all those drops in his newest project, New Vegas. The eight-track offering is well-rounded from front to back, and—in my opinion—puts him towards the top of the food chain in the budding DMV underground. From lyrics to flow to his beat selection (it’s entirely produced by St. James the Pro), New Vegas is a trip. - Hef of Dailychiefers.com

Expect More Releases From The Friv Gang Representer - Slapdashrva.com
Over the weekend I was introduced to some new music by a DMV-native name Swolf. The slick-rhyming Virginian recently released two new singles in promotion of his forthcoming project, New Vegas, which is set to drop later this fall. The first, titled “Be Cool,” is Swolf’s take on No Limit solider Master P’s “Bout it.” The second joint, “What You Want” sees the young artist tapping fellow Virginian, producer Corey Michael who samples KiD CuDi “Solo Dolo (Nightmare).” Both tracks are dope and show Swolf’s effortlessly flows and mind for catchy chorus. - Ashley Outrageous
Virginia based artist, SWOLF is equipping the stage for his forthcoming project, New Vegas, expected to drop later this year. Already flaunting his artistic ability with catchy hooks, efficient flows and an ear for some complimenting productions. In his two latest tracks, Swolf knocks over Master P’s “Bout It” & also delivers “What You Want”, produced by Cory Michael. Listen to both tracks below. - http://radicalbeings.com
Swolf, an up and comer out of the Northern Virginia area, drops the visual for his track "The Rap" off his mixtape, The Understanding. This track is straight rap, no glitz,no glam, no bullshit and I love it. I'm really fortunate I had the opportunity to meet Swolf because I know he's going to do great things. Download this track today and check out the rest of his mixtape. - Money Davi$ of greatmusicallnight.com
VA rep Swolf is back with a brand-new cut, and it’s a great one. I first caught a clip of him the other week over an old Master P instrumental, and I was immediately hooked but his stark lines and gritty style. That same style is on display with “Unbalanced,” and has definitely got me excited for his upcoming New Vegas project, dropping later this Fall.
Listen below & enjoy. - Hef_D of Dailychiefers.com

VA Native Swolf recently dropped a new track titled “Be Cool,” and it’s definitely one that caught my attention. His gritty style combined with the head nodding instrumental (Master P’s “Bout It Bout It”) make for a quality mix that has piqued my interest in his upcoming work. Along with this track, the Virginia emcee also dropped the Kid Cudi-sampled “What You Want” (produced by Corey Michael), which acts as a quality teaser for his impending project, New Vegas. - DailyChiefers.com

The DMV music scene continues to thrive and grow as various artists and creatives vie for position at the top of the budding scene. The latest artist to come to my attention is slick-rhyming Virginian Swolf. The talented up-and-comer recently dropped off two freebies to let fans and artists alike know that he is here to stay. For his latest offerings, he hijacks Master P’s “Bout it” for the laid-back “Be Cool” and taps the talents of fellow Virginian, producer Corey Michael, for the impressive Kid Cudi-sampling “What You Want.” Swolf effortlessly flows throughout and a catchy chorus guides us through the captivating release.
Neither of these will be featured on Swolf’s forthcoming project, New Vegas, which is set to drop later this fall. Still, you need to check these out. Do so below. - potholesinmyblog.com
Swolf and Jetty Shad are back with the visuals for their latest collaborative track “The Real” from their upcoming project. Directed by Helena Banks, the video is void of much color, complementing the hard-hitting verses and making the emcees’ verse stand out even more. - Hef of Dailychiefers.com
What’s your stage name and where are you from?
SWOLF, from Reston, Va
When did you realize you wanted to be an artist and pursue music as a career?
Well I’ve always loved music and I used to always pretend I was an entertainer as a kid. I would say probably in late 2010/early 2011. After the bullshit mixtapes every “up and coming rapper” was doing I was able to get my peers to take me serious. It wasn't super good but I guess they could just hear the potential.
Who were some of the musical influences that inspired you to grow into your style?
B.Love, CB Slaya, Corey Michael, St. James The Pro, JSalt, and Mike Beastly
What current projects are you pushing and why should people pay attention to your movement?
The next project I’ll be pushing is the group project I help create with 3 other artists. We like to go by the music collective “FrivGang”. We will be releasing our group project, Tales From The FRIV later this fall. I’m not hear to tell people who or what they should pay attention to but if you/they believe in following your dreams and doing what you want to get where you need through positivity and without fear of judgment then you’re already repping FRIVLIFE and that’s good enough for me. Never stop dreaming
Describe what its like to see you perform? What do you want people to take away from the experience?
The show is where you turn listeners into fans in my opinion. As of right now my live show is about as hiphop as you can get, just me and a Dj. I like to show my charisma on stage, make you feel like you’ve known me forever and really build that connection as the whole room shares this energy from the music. When the budget allows it I’ll incorporate the live band and that’s when the magic will really happen
What’s next on your agenda?
To continue to build a solid fanbase brick by brick, person by person. Push Tales From The FRIV and have it open up doors and opportunity for everyone that was involved and just keep making music. Whatever comes from that I’ll be ready
Where can we find you online?
My social media handle for everything is SWOLF32 you can mostly find me on twitter and of course check out the soundcloud
Any last shouts?
S/O to each and every last supporter I have, that’s quite a few to name but I love you all thanks

Bio
The Virginia native began writing poetry and raps in the 7th
grade and continued on and off throughout high school but it wasn’t until
summer 2009 he would show a “more than
just a hobby” interest. Working with
producer/songwriter/rapper/and childhood friend B.Love, SWOLF would work on his
craft for days coming up with witty rhyme schemes and unique flows to present
his story to whomever would listen. In
2012 Swolf released his official debut project “The Understanding” through independent
label S.Y.T.Y Ent. After a parting ways
with the label SWOLF teamed up with another fellow artist CB Slaya and began
supporting the FRIVLIFE movement (representing free living and following your dreams without fear of
judgment) after relatively short buzz and life happening for a young up and
coming artist, 2013 wasn’t such a smooth year.
Life outside of music was a roller coaster but it was the music and
positive attitude that kept the overall goal in mind, influenced by the art and
process of making music itself and credits many artists for the way he
creates. His subject matter stretches
from love and heartbreak to partying and living life; SWOLF covers it all, the full package, A laid back but also in
your face artist whose witty lyrics and flow demand your attention as soon as
you press play.
