Bio
Sweethook was founded by Scott Cornwell, a New York Fire Department paramedic who has been building and playing electric banjos since the early seventies. He has built many electric banjos for himself and others and has applied for a patent on his latest design. He formed Sweethook to showcase his funk/rock banjo sound along with the amazing talents of his friends. He is joined by the sweet and powerful voice of Jazelyn Montanez who provides soaring harmonies as well as heartfelt lead vocal work. Steve (The Doctor) Wortman with his rocking blues harp add a rootsy, blues flavor to the band. Percussionist extraordinaire Matt Shanley anchors the sound of the band with his drumming that ranges from sweet salsa conga to jungle boogie djembe and a dizzying variety of world, afro-cuban and straight up Brooklyn beats in between. Fellow East New York paramedic Will K. Jones lays down the grooves with his six string bass. Scott's son Leon Campos, of the Vermont-based jam band Greyspoke, joins them on keyboards, with sounds that range from smooth jazz piano to the power of the Hammond B-3 .Sweethook comes straight outta Brooklyn with a rocking, rootsy sound that was born in the hills but lives in the rhythm of the city.
