Few musicians have the career goal to create music that will have more babies conceived while listened to than Prince and Barry White combined. Sunset Blush has a lot of work to do in this regard, and it's all started with his debut EP 'The Purple Scandal'.

This Melbourne based artist has a lot about him that reeks of cult figure in the best possible sense. He's not scared to whack an 80's mega mix synth jam as his opening track when the rest of the tracks bob along to a retro style of pop/rock, which I admire. I also admire the balls out comedic factor of his performance. He's really an 'all or nothing' sort of singer and when he's giving his all (98% of the time) it's a sheer delight to listen to.

When greeted by the opening lyrics 'I'm sweating like a Mexican outside of a taco store' it's easy to find a repour with Sunset's sense of humour. His obvious obsessions with Prince also lend a sort of endearing quality to what in all honesty is quite a Spartan recording when it comes down to it. But none of that's of concern when Blush explains how his cat is filing his third lawsuit against him and subsequently moving to El Salvador with honest sincerity. You're too in the moment with him to care.

This EP is also great because I can't think of another artist to relate the sound to in a feeble attempt to market Blush to the right audience. It's unique; it's got its own feel, sound and personality, just like the man himself.

I'm quite sure how you'd go about getting a copy to discover him for yourself, but you can probably request it through his myspace. Be warned, it's the start of an addiction of crack like significance. Once you've heard it once, you'll itch to go back for more.
