Spyn Reset‘s second full-length album, Four Dimensional Audio, is a gem from start to finish. It’s a groovy, jazzy, dreamlike musical composition that incorporates elements of Flying Lotus, Battles, Sound Tribe Sector Nine and jam bands like Left Over Salmon. Spyn Reset hit the nail on the head with their meticulously composed version of instrument-infused electronica.
Self-produced with collaborative input from Geoff Ott, engineer for Queens of the Stone Age and Three Doors Down, Four Dimensional Audio explores the multiple sounds of the Moog Synthesizer, Vibes, bass and drums, in a 50-minute explosion of delightfully pleasurable ear candy that melts in your mind and not your wax covered ear canal.
Spyn Reset strings songs together like snowflakes falling from the sky, each one unique and integral, combining to produce a blizzard of improvisational beats that flow perfectly, building into a polished work of art. Mastered by Steve Turnridge of Ultraviolet Studios, Four Dimensional Audio is a fresh, crisp, clean and welcomed addition to any music collection. Having gained airplay on multiple radio stations across the country, including 89.3 KUVO-Denver, look for Spyn Reset at upcoming festivals near you. - Colorado Music Buzz
Who says you can’t judge a book by its cover or in this case, its inner CD jacket design. When you find cool artwork on an inner CD jacket it’s a good indication that some great music will soon be massaging your ears. Northern Seattle’s Spyn Reset’s CD, Objects in the Abstract, is no exception to this art and music rule but instead goes a long way into raising the bar on what to expect from those who apply the art and music rule.
Spyn Reset are an instrumental rock band that blends elements of jazz, hip hop, rock, dance, and experimental, to create a unique sound that is more infectious than stupidity in reality TV. The first song, “Green Rose” kicks in and I’m struck by the great sound of the Fender Rhoades piano. It seems like forever since I’ve heard one and it is as refreshing as water in the desert. The drums sound like something Questlove from The Roots would come up with. The bass acts like the tour bus getting the rest of the band where they need to go safely. It’s a great song with a groove that feels like surfing a wave to the shore.
“In the Shade of Light” is a saxophone and organ driven song that comes off like the theme to a beautiful sunset over the ocean. The reoccurring theme played by the sax is instantly familiar and wonderfully placed in the mix. “In a Few Minutes” sounds like the Red Hot Chili Peppers stopped over the studio to inspire the band to funk it up a little. The bass guitar is cooking like an underpaid grill worker at the Waffle House. “The Spotless Studio” lets the band show their softer side with some beautiful piano jazz that kicks up at the end to remind you that this band is not a piano jazz band.
This is a band that is tighter than a size 6 dress on a full grown hippo. Spyn Reset jams their way through so many styles of music while maintaining their own sound the entire time. It is quite a triumph to have a sound this distinctive on your first album but these boys pulled it off nicely. - MuzikReviews.com
Seattle based collective Spyn Reset deliver jazz fueled progressive instrumental music that has a lot of heart and soul. Music is a very emotive thing. It works on the listener on many different levels that very few other art form can manage. It can render a person in a state of near ecstasy or draw a tear from even the most cold hearted person. That is the power of music. Listening to Objects In The Abstract you get the feeling that Spyn Reset understand this power.
Objects In The Abstract is a mainly uplifting experience with the tempo driven hard most of the time and some impressive individual musicianship making the bands free spirited sound all the more convincing. The music is always interesting and tracks like Yellow Plants and Silent Reflection show a deep understanding of structure and composition that allows the band to paint canvases with their sound. If John Coltrane was still with us, you would pretty much imagine that he would be doing similar stuff to these guys.On an album of impressive tracks from start to finish, it is the wonderful The Spotless Studio that draw the most praise. The piano driven piece is punctuated by some wonderful staccato drumming and free flowing bass before being joined by the rasping saxophone of Darian Asplind which really does make it stand out.You don't have to be a jazz fan to appreciate this album as it has so many other facets to its overall sound. This is infectious music played with a dexterity and passion that will win over the most sceptical listener. - The Music Critic, London, U.K
Review by Jonathan Cohen.
Musical genres really are nothing more than fragile constructs that restrict great artists into oversimplified generalizations about how music should or should not sound. Spyn Reset, a sextet from the musical hotbed of Seattle, WA, showcases how fragile and, well, abstract genres really are with their debut album titled appropriately enough Objects in the Abstract. Now, whether or not Spyn Reset's raison d'etre is to exploit the concept of genres by creating music that cannot be easily classified, or simply to make badass music is not for me to decide. Are they a far-out rock band though? Jazz? Electronic? Exactly. They are all of the above, but they are also not limited by any of those labels. This is definitely a band you want to keep track of as they continue to evolve. - KAMP Radio

This technicality and the precision with which the music was executed was something that many local music heads had not ever heard before.
I must emphasize this point about Spyn Reset. I HAVE NOT HEARD MUSIC LIKE THIS. I think this was the general consensus among the crowd, even to the fans. Spyn Reset made a real mark on Denver with this show. The hour or so of music we got from them was high energy, full of surprises and technically gnarly to boot. We emphatically wait for Spyn Reset’s return to Denver. - gratefulweb.com
