Style: Indie-Pop
When: Feb. 25th
Where: City Tavern
Somehow all the trendy Denton bands have figured out that City Tavern is a hip little spot. Actually, they’ve known it for quite some time, and well before their Dallas brethren seemed to catch on. But this week it’s one of Dallas’ own that’s giving people a reason to drop by. Spookeasy, one of the most recent bands I’ve been turned onto, are a happy little eccentric pop outfit that actually fashion some pretty interesting tunes. - My Dallas Music

3. "Buy You", Spookeasy
It's been a long time where I've been lured into a show while walking down the street, but that's exactly what happened to me Friday night. I passed Club Dada, liked what I heard, and paid cover for Spookeasy. Their live set is a little more rocking than the CD, which has a slight new wavish feel to it. The intro to this track almost reminds me of Cocteau Twins for some reason. But whether live or on CD, this band gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. - Ghost of Blind Lemon

You Don’t Need a Secret Password to Enjoy Spookeasy’s Track “Waterbed”
This week’s TOW goes to Dallas’ Spookeasy for their 2 minute gem of a song titled “Waterbed.” I caught Spookeasy live at Dada last Friday, their performance led me straight to web stalking them the next day, and that’s when I heard this track.
First off, the guitar riff is really sweet, it kind of reminds me of something Beck would play, like a song off of Odelay. Take that riff and add a steady drum beat and you got yourself a mix between ’90s Indie rockers That Dog! and ’90s trip-hoppers Portishead, sounding similar to the music stylie of today’s Blonde Redhead.
I also like the simple catchy simile in the chorus that goes “I sink like a waterbed,” tell me, who hasn’t had that feeling before.
