De hoes van de ep van The Spinshots, met daaraan toegevoegd de eerste klanken van ‘The Line Of Life’ (hoor je nu) doen vermoeden met weinig meer dan een goedwillend feestbandje te maken te hebben. Niets blijkt minder waar; oké de muziek is feestelijk, maar verre van gezapig. Intelligent juist en vrolijkmakend. Wat wil je als luisteraar nog meer?
Het Amsterdamse The Spinshots speelt naar eigen zeggen "gearrangeerde doch wilde beat/soul-gerelateerde muziek met swingende ritmes, opzwepende gitaar- en baslijnen en spetterende blazers". Nu geven ze zelf netjes aan dat het hier gaat om een wervend tekstje, maar ze slaan de plank in zijn geheel niet mis.
De liedjes hebben een behoorlijk snel ritme, razen als een trein, zonder het oog te verliezen voor de mooie details in het landschap waardoor gereden wordt. De kunde van alle zeven muzikanten is terug te horen in alle vier de liedjes; de nummers zijn af en klinken alsof ze van een volwaardig album afkomstig zijn.
Muziek in de richting van bijvoorbeeld Room Eleven, maar toch anders. Niet beter, niet minder, maar meer up-tempo. Swingend en feelgood, maar overdacht. Nu nog een hoesje dat daar representatief voor is. - Musicfrom.nl
This seven-piece boogaloo outfit play a 1960s brew of orchestral soul but then spiced up with equal measures of punk, bossa nova, exotica, surf, exploitation, spagetti and with just a spot of Las Vegas grind. They groove, have a hot singer and a horn section. What else do you need? Exactly: turbands. And they got those too.

After 9 years of psychedelic glamrock with Paxy Dragon, Martin Draax decided to start up a new band with the perfect sound. And it worked: We've managed to capture the sentiment of the sixties, the excitement of 70s punk, managed to combine it with the swing of the 20s and the songwriters-skills of the 40s. But then again, new and fresh in their approach of sound.
The Spinshots call their music 'Rhythm & Tunes': soul-related beat-music with references to 60's soundtracks, Klezmer, Balkan Brass, Ethiopian jazz, Bollywood, Boogaloo, 60's funk and Exotica. The Spinshots are inspired by everything in pop history that is wild and exotic.
The EP Cleanz-O-Tech (2008) received raving reviews from Dutch music critcs (o.a. LiveXS, Fret, Music Maker). LiveXS crowned them 'Local Heroes.' The Spinshots toured in Holland and played venues like Paard vanTroje, Paradiso, Sjujazzpodium & Bellevue Theater. They were also featured on compilation albums GainsNOrd and Musique Fantastique.
Currently The Spinshots work on their first LP, which is due January 2011. Some labels have already shown their interest, though we are still in the recording process right now. The new songs are not available through Sonicbids.
