Bio
"Heart Held High" is more then just the title of York's first EP, it's a statement. He's on his way to living his dream, led by his passion for music and songwriting, and he won't be stopped. Inspired at a young age by artists such as Phil Collins, Eric Clapton and John Mayer. After graduating from high school York did a stint at university in Indiana and Virginia. He exploded onto the college scene, packing coffee houses with his growing legion of fans. He soon became aware that his drive for songwriting and performing outweighed his drive for economics and decided to head back to his hometown Belleville, Ontario and start focusing on music full time, “my family is always worried I’ll end up living in my parents garage forever… but at least it has great acoustics,” York adds.
What you see is not what you get when it comes to York’s abilities as a song writer and guitarist. Though his stage presence is often very calm, collected and infused with a sarcastic sense of humor, what comes out on each track on his debut EP, Heart Held High, is a far cry from his laid back exterior. His signature trademark of honest and mature lyrics can be found throughout the CD on heavy handed ballads such as Second Man. A broad vocal range and gifted guitar rifts are just the foundational tools York uses to give each track its own identity. York knows what sound he wants to create and stretches to endless limits to find the perfect fit for each track.
He is finding his audience the best way he knows how, with pure and honest lyrics intertwined with memorable melodies.
