"Ballard Seafood Fest"

"This is a people coming together event....had you seen Soul Senate perform that incredibly beautiful version of Amazing Grace on Sunday morning, you'd understand what it's REALLY about."
— Cindy Payne, Promotions, Ballard Seafood Fest - www.myballard.com

"BestNewBands.com"

"Soul Senate, a newly formed seven-piece funk-soul band, produced a set of surprising authenticity; harkening back to when the first blues musician incorporated Gospel melodies into their songs. Their short songs sit in a pattern for some time, dripping with unresolved hooks and organ swells. Moments of vocal rises and bold solos give a nice touch on the relatively laid back feeling of many of their songs."
Daniel Burnett - www.bestnewbands.com

"Seattle Show Gal"

"So you want funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk? Well Soul Senate is topping off the night with their hyped up fusion of funk/jazz/soul. And would you believe they have a B3 Hammond too? Oh this is too good...this is the time to get out and dance your ass off on a Friday night....Funk fusion just hasn't felt any better." - Seattle Show Gal

"Gotta Have That Funk"

Now this is the kind of funk I can get down with! Less funk and more funky—make sense? I like it because Soul Senate deliver with a good dose of soul and Motown. It's not goofy slap-bass bullshit; it's got the swing and class of the '60s. It's got groove. Plus: They have a trumpet player named Moose. - The Stranger

"Noise for the Needy 2010 Preview"

"I am talking about Soul Senate, the incumbents of refinement. The makers of collective noises that make your soul feel good. Those unfamiliar with the tardiness of a Seattle summer might need some Soul Senate in order to make that wait until July 4th an easier one."
Phil Bouie - Sound On The Sound

Soul Senate is a high-energy, adrenaline-inducing, audience-oriented, original soul & funk party powerhouse.

The group bridges the decidedly funky sounds of the 60s & early 70ssuch as the Meters, Stevie Wonder, and the Stax label of Memphiswith a distinct modern sound in the vein of Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Cee-lo, Raphael Saadiq, Mayer Hawthorne, and Allen Stone. Soul Senate claims their own musical territory with hip shaking grooves, well-crafted arrangements, sizzling horns, memorable instrumentals and vocal songs, and a tip of the hat to many musical styles.

Band members have come from successful groups such as Cascadia 10, Altered States of Funk, Felicia Loud & Her Soul, Swamp Mama Johnson, KissingPotion, and Superkali; as well as Bo Diddley and Etta James.

Each member of the band has over 10-30 years experience on the local or national scene: in sum, playing countless venues & festivalsfrom Bumbershoot to the 100,000 person West Festwith experience opening for touring acts like Orgone, Maceo Parker, Little Feat, The New Mastersounds, Will Bernard, Roy Ayers, Shameka Copeland, Los Lobos, and the Monophonics.
