"Good Music Fills the Air this Weekend"

Try as one might, Soulhound cannot be categorized or pigeonholed into a nutshell description. A deep and wide foundation of soul is at the heart of their sound, which has been described as “the Meters meets Hendrix meets Steely Dan.” Soulhound brews up a potent concoction of genres: R&B, soul, a heavy dose of late 60s and 70s funk, like Parliament and Funkadelic. But just when you think you’ve got them all figured out, Soulhound can unleash a surprising jam-band vibe, akin to Phish, or throw in a few Beatles-inspired tunes. Playing a creative hodgepodge of genres rooted in soul, Soulhound is musical entertainment at its finest. Suffice it to say that if you catch the Soul Train, you’ll have a funky good time watching them perform at Atkins Park Tavern tonight. - smyrna.patch.com

"Soulhound @ 10 High, Atlanta"

ATLANTA SHOW REVIEW
Soulhound @ 10 High, Atlanta
Thursday, February 17, 2005
Written by Gen Cole

Soulhound has been enjoying a momentum set into over-drive in and around Atlanta ever since winning Terrapin Beer Company's Rye Pale Ale Battle of the Bands contest and opening for national jam rock group, RAQ, at Jake's Toadhouse, Saturday, November 20, 2004.

Everywhere they play, they are gathering new, devoted fans. Like Erin, who caught Soulhound at a recent show at the Ten High in Virginia Highlands, an upscale area of Atlanta. Erin was there Wednesday night, February 16, 2005, and so enjoyed the show, she had to write the band to express her enthusiasm for their sound, "You guys definitely rocked the house last night. I've seen Soulhound at Jake's (Toadhouse) before and I always enjoy your music. I love the singer's voice. I don't think you
could find anyone better for the sound you're going for."

And it's no wonder the band is gaining such popularity. With guitar-driven R&B, rich doses of soul and funk thrown in for good measure, it's a sound reminiscent of the late sixties and early seventies, but definitively their own. Look forward to a studio release soon. But in the meantime, catch Soulhound Friday, March 18, 2005, at Peachtree Tavern and give them a listen. Their special guests will include Athen's own, Green Light Council and Exit Anywhere.

What is it about Atlanta Georgia’s Soulhound that makes them so special? Maybe it’s because in a sea of interchangeable, cookie cutter bands & music, Soulhound creates music that just doesn’t sound like their contemporaries.

Soulhound has been described as “The Meters meets Hendrix meets Steely Dan”. One things for sure, Soulhound are inspired disciples of the groove-oriented R&B, Soul & greasy Funk of the late sixties & seventies. Their influences range from Tower of Power & Parliament/Funkadelic to Graham Central Station, The Beatles, Phish & Miles Davis. With their unique brand of song-based, groove-oriented music, the band’s shows have become a crossroads where fans of all these genera can meet & get their groove on.

Soulhound has played all over the Southeast & has shared the stage with both national & regionally touring groups like Blues Traveler, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Galactic, Mofro, RAQ, The Zac Brown Band, The Lee Boys, Col. Bruce Hampton, Blueground Undergrass, The Legendary JC’s, Laura Reed & Deep Pocket, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band & many others.

Soulhound’s 1st EP “A Quickie In The Cave” was released in the summer of 2009. It was recorded mostly live at the famed Tree Sounds studios in the big room – AKA “The Cave”. In 2013 they will release their full length CD "Kudzu Rising".
