"Hottest Downloads: Something Beginning With L: Overcoat."

"This Suffolk trio’s debut single is wonderfully woozy, synth-laden pastoralia.” - The Sunday Times

"Overcoat: Single Review"

“sounds like the Breeders stargazing at Adem’s ‘Love and Other Planets’, with the brittle drum and guitar parts smoldering-ember vocals making for moments of scuzzy disorder and sweet transfixion. Another little miracle courtesy of Devon via Brighton’s always excellent Drift Records.” - Time Out (London)

"Single Of The month"

With the raucous musicianship of prime-Breeders paired with the mind-expanding songwriting of Built To Spill, SBL certainly know how to impress this burnt out 90’s alt. Rock fan – the crystalline female vocals offering something melancholy and absorbing over the perfectly structured quiet-loud-quiet sound the band possess. - Subba Culture

"SINGLE: SOMETHING BEGINNING WITH L Say / Mean (Drift)"

After recently lending their sublime vocal talents to Graham Coxon’s live band, SBL return with their second release, coming in the form of a double a-side download only single. Say rocks along in a PJ Harvey type groove, all seductive rhythms and electric guitar flourishes, while Mean opts for a more acoustic direction, complete with lush finger-picked guitar and their trademark hazy female vocals, all slowly building into a flurry of electronic beats. With a debut album due next year we should be in for a real treat. (IC) - Brighton Source

Bio

Jon and Jen met over a pool table at arts college in Leeds. A mutual love of Soundgarden and a 4track later and their first band was born. Many recordings, name changes, taste diversions and a brief management stint from Ricky Gervais later, they met Lucy, the then singing keyboardist with The Secret Hairdresser. Together the 3 made up the Fuses part of John Peel favourites Stuffy/The Fuses. Finding themselves constantly on the same musical wavelength (Pixies, Autolux, My Bloody Valentine, Death Cab For Cutie, PJ Harvey) the trio decided to form 'Something Beginning With L' and are due to release, debut album, 'Beautiful Ground' in April. Outside of the band, Lucy and Jen have lent there vocal and/or guitar talents to Graham Coxon (Blur), Charlotte Hatherley (ex Ash), The Broken Family Band and Chris T-T. As well as producing SBL's album, Jon is a sought after producer in his own right, and runs OneCat Studio in Camberwell. www.myspace.com/somethingbeginningwithl
