SLiM PiCKENS aka Iron Helmet

SLiM PiCKENS, Kyvah Johnston, was Born in the Roxbury section of Boston. The first born of two boys he was destined to entertain. Early on a young SLiM demonstrated his love for entertainment by performing for family members growing up in a home filled with music fueled SLiM's Passion. At the Age of 12 he began writing, Free styling, and developing his craft.
The Style is based on hip hop roots, socially conscious what is consider underground. He has had air play on several college radio stations and has featured on some local mainstream stations as well. Aside from radio he has also received recognition from the internet as an electrifying MC on the rise. SLiM has been a featured artist on sites such as Disdain.tv, Rapstation.com, LOUD.com, OURSTAGE.com, Big-Mike.net, AOL's The BoomBox to name a few.
SLiM PiCKENS has become a well respected performer around the New England area performing at venues like Brighton Music Hall, The Western Front, Kay's Oasis, Mc Gann's, The Middle East, Ecko Lounge, The Spot Underground, Lupos HeartBreak, The Beach House, The Pyramid, SOB's, Santos Party House. He has shared the stage with KRS-1, DJ Premier, Cam'Ron, the GZA(Wu-Tang), Wu-Tang Clan, Tame1(of Artifactz), Jedi Mind Tricks, The Nappy Roots and more.
Recently released a project entitled "SLiM PiCKENS Presents Iron Helmet: The Iron Hell-Met Saga" entirely produced by Thirdeye Focused based in Concord, California. The album is a raw display of vintage Boom Bap and piercing lyrics. Iron Helmet, the alter ego, is a metaphor of strong will as well as hard head. The album has everything from philosophy, battle, to story rhymes, defintely could listen to it 20 years from now.
