"Promising Arrival: the Sleeping With Angels Interview"

Promising Arrival: the Sleeping With Angels Interview
By: Natalie Perez

When June 2007 struck, a group if five young musicians, raging in age from early to mid 20s, and all hailing from Southern California, decided to form a band, Sleeping With Angels. With Josh Galo (Vocals), Anthony Reta (Bass/Vocals/keyboard) The Ozkar (Guitars), Andrew Garcia (Guitars), Justin Tapparo (Bass), and Fabio Patino (Drums), the band has spent the last two years writing, gigging and creating music which have resulted in the release of their first CD, "Promise to Nowhere" due in June 2010.

LPNU: Let's start off with a little background information. How did Sleeping With Angels start out?

Josh: We started in June of 2007. We were all in other bands, but artistic differences drew us apart from the other projects that we were in; and summoned us together. I guess it was our time to find each other.

LPNU: Where do you draw your influences from?

Josh: We all have different influences, which makes our music so diverse. From the Beatles, Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Nirvana, The Doors, King Crimson, Iron Maiden, John Lee Hooker, all the way to Bach, Beethoven and Mozart.......the List goes on and on. Oh, and alcohol...alcohol definitely influences our sound!

LPNU: What is your favorite track off the new album and why?

Josh: One of my favorite tracks off of the album has to be, "One More for the Road".... It deals with having to escape from your life for a little while, and doing what you have to do; or taking what you need to take...before you have to make that long journey down the road, back home.

LPNU: Can you tell us more about “Promise to Nowhere"?

Josh: "Promise to Nowhere", deals with the never ending rat-race that the majority of the human species finds themselves trapped in. The never ending pursuit of money and power; the manipulation by the media and government to brainwash the masses into their type of thinking; the constant need to crush your competition, kill your enemy and disregard your neighbor, basically how in the end, we all die. What's the point of life? Or is it, just a promise to nowhere?

LPNU: Does the album cover for “Promise to Nowhere" have any meaning behind it or did you guys just think it looked awesome?

Josh: We used a picture of train tracks...when we were young, we lived by them, and they connected us to our friends and destinations....a road in a way. The track behind us is our past, and the tracks leading into the infinite distance ahead of us is our future.

LPNU: Who writes the lyrics in the band? What do the lyrics usually deal with?

Josh: I write the lyrics. They all have to deal with certain times in my life where the only sanctuary from my demons was to write. Pain, sadness, abandonment, suicidal thoughts, betrayal, anger, hatred... raw, powerful emotions...its all in there. The songs are pretty much a form of "Sonic- Therapy" for me and the rest of the band. They provide a way to cope.

LPNU: You guys are playing at LA PUNK NOIR II, how did you get involved?

Josh: Lord Q came cross our MYSPACE page, liked what he heard and the rest is history. LPN is a vital platform for emerging bands like us. Its an honor to be on the same line-up with bands like MAHI GATO, AS THE ASHES FALL and especially BRAIN DEAD BUROCKRACY. Its gonna' be one hell of a party!

LPNU: What should fans look forward too for the rest of 2010 and beyond?

Josh: Well, we want to hit the road soon, and meet some of our fans across the country. Also, check our website for live strams and videos; and at some point, we'll get back into the stuio and begin working on the next album.

LPNU: Sleeping With Angels is from Los Angeles what LA sports teams do you root for?

Josh: We don't like sports. We see them as needless displays of testosterone.

LPNU: Any last comments?

Josh: We appreciate all of our fans that we have gained through the past years and the ones that we will gain in the time to come, and hope that our music helps them as much as it has helped us.....

Sleeping With Angels is one of the most original bands in decades.
With it's 90's Alternative Hard Rock roots, a shadow of Grunge and a soul of Metal; Sleeping With Angels is becoming a band to keep your eye on.
Their haunting melodic guitars, powerful drums and soulful vocals will leave you screaming for more.
They have been compared to :

Sleeping With Angels started in 2007 when Josh Galo(vocals) and Anthony Reta left the band Zain and sought a more comitted musical career. That same year, they were referred an amazing lead guitarist named Andrew.
Early june they recieved messages from a rythm guitarist named Oscar and a drummer named Tony who responded to a myspace add.
The Band began playing but the finalized members had yet not joined.
Fabio Patino, whom had been giving the current drummer ideas, replaced him on percussion in September of 2007.
In August of 2008, Anthony Reta left the position as bassist and was soon replaced by Justin Tapparro(a long time friend of the band and fellow musician).
They have since played venues such as:
The Key Club, The Whiskey, The Cat Club, Blue Cafe, The House of Blues-Hollywood and many more large/small music clubs and bars.
In April 2009 the band began recording they're debut album at D.M. Gremlin Studios in Long Beach, Ca.
"Promise To Nowhere" was released on June 26th 2010, which is now avaliable on iTunes, AmazonMp3, Zune, Cdbaby, Emusic, Spotfiy, Nokia, and more.
