"Skeleton Coast"

Nerdvana, Inc. covered Skeleton Coast who played at The Wherehouse on October 21, with Epic Ruins, Stardeath and White Dwarfs. Skeleton Coast has a driving pulse of energy pushing you to become more than an observer, forcing you activate and engage with them, with some times haunting lyrics taking you places unexpected is an amiable surprise, in this unassuming venue. You feel that Skeleton Coast takes every performance seriously, wanting us to enjoy the experience in more way than one, with homemade props and confetti, lasers and visuals an actual lighting design with cues makes all the difference. Skeleton Coast is a small band fairly unknown but they know how to work with the resources they have, putting on a show without being gimmicky is hard to do, but I found nothing in-genuine about this show, about the handful of dancers/fans in costume on stage – there was nothing in-genuine about the T-Rex on stage pumping his fist to the heart beat of the room. For lack of better words it was fucking bad-ass. These blurry and tracing images do not do this band justice. Check back in the near future for a full article on Skeleton Coast, my suggestion is to follow this band and keep an eye out for their debut album coming out soon.

Bio

We make magical sounds accompanied with a stellar visual experience. Our project began as a live show, and then to the studio. The debut LP is out on Dreamy Soundz and was produced by Jordan Richardson (Ben Harper, Epic Ruins, Son of Stan). Our music is described as Swimgaze, an idea of shoegaze floating on the surface of water. Never sinking, always swimming. Think 1996, cannonballs in the pool, and wizards.

"Skeleton Coast boasts a song-writing knack that betrays the members’ relative youth. Tightly structured pop hooks mingle with spacey jams in sonic textures that make you want to explore the cosmos, even if only from the comfort of your couch". –– Steve Steward

We have played with Das Racist, School Of Seven Bells, Blackstone Rangers, Stardeath&White Dwarves, Ishi and many others.

"atmospheres, and melodies blend together and bury themselves beneath a soaring guitar that wouldn't be out of place filling out the massive open space of an arena."-Cory Graves, Central Track

"Skeleton Coast’s unique soundscapes: ethereal but punchy tunes in which keyboard, guitar, and digital sound effects interweave. The band is an unusual sight live because McCubbins and Torres stand before their keyboards with guitars strapped on, quickly switching from strings to keys apparently on a whim, often in the middle of a long tune. They also share lead vocal duties, although Torres insists that McCubbins is the real star in that area. The final result has been variously described as “jungle pop” (for the tribal beats occasionally employed), “melodramatic pop,” and “Zelda meets My Bloody Valentine.” Influences include The Beach Boys, Modest Mouse, Pink Floyd, and Roy Orbison (one of McCubbins’ favorite singers)" -Ft. Worth Weekly

"Think late-'60s psychedelia sound, only with a healthy dose of modern electronics thrown in. (There is also a bit of latter-day Beatles in there.) The rhythm section is tight, and the guitars energetic." -DFW.com
