Sister Neapolitan
On my last full day of SXSW, I attended an all-female showcase at a cute little wine bar outside of the madness downtown, and it was easily one of my favorite SXSW memories of the week. I came to see local Chicago talent and Sofar alum Nicole Amine (who crushed it!) but Sister Neapolitan came up soon after and their beautiful harmonies, humor, and grace on stage brought the little wine bar patio to life. They are very young and just getting started, but they've got a bright future ahead full of incredible vocal harmonies that brought tears to my eyes! Look out for these girls. - Billy - Sofar Sounds
By January 2018, #WomenCrush had reached 13 cities, and next week it is coming to our very own Denver. On Sunday, October 14th, Mercury Cafe will host the first-ever #WomenCrush Denver, which will feature the local music acts Sassfactory, a “nuclear fusion of electro-soul funk-hop” from Boulder, Sister Neapolitan, a trio of songwriters and Mirrors & Lights, an indie group out of Denver. #WomenCrush music appears to be thrilled to bring their movement to Denver and to also work with the new Chapter Leader for Denver, Britt Margit. Margit has been working in music for some time and felt like #WomenCrush Music was the perfect platform to help foster the community of female songwriters in the Denver area. - 303 Magazine

Sister Neapolitan combines three unique styles into one deliciously harmonizing treat for an instantly soothing listening experience. Although not actual sisters, Megan Ellsworth, Katie Smith, and Alana Margolis have a magnetic persona that casts a spell on the listener with their gorgeous unifying vocals. - 303 Magazine
Sister Neapolitan is this absolutely amazing three-piece all lady folk band. They have such thoughtful lyrics and truly beautiful harmonies. The three women who make up Sister Neapolitan also met as students at CU Denver and we have heard about them from various people, but when we were talking about openers for this show, Payden Widner, our guitar player, was immediately like “We need Sister Neapolitan. I saw them at UMS and they are going to be big.” That was that!! Since then we’ve been working on some special moments for the show with them and they are amazing. So funny, down to earth, and genuine. People you’d want to hang out with. Y’all canNOT miss them. - Swallow Hill Music
Swallow Hill Production Assistant Intern Alana Margolis performs in folk/Americana trio Sister Neapolitan who are playing The UMS. This is Alana’s first time at the festival in any capacity.
“Sister Neapolitan was so excited to be contacted to play UMS because we want to broaden our fan base here in Denver and meet new musicians and make new friends!” Alana says. “We’ve only been a band for about a year so being able to expand and showcase our music to new fans and make new connections with people always fulfills our hearts. We are so happy we were given this opportunity and can’t wait!”
Underground Music Showcase 2019
The 2019 Underground Music Showcase takes place Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28.
When asked to describe Sister Neapolitan, Alana says people “can expect some tight all-female harmonies as well as a good laugh from our fun behavior onstage.”
“Sister Neapolitan has often been compared to a female version of Crosby, Stills and Nash,” she continues, “and we draw heavy on the story-telling aspect of folk/Americana music so we hope that we touch every person’s heart with at least one song.” That’s a description that should be music to the ears of many folks at Swallow Hill. - Swallow Hill Music
Sister Neapolitan is made up of three songwriters: Megan Ellsworth from the Cascade Mountains of Sisters, Oregon, Katie Smith from the desert in Tri-Cities, Washington, and Alana Margolis from the farmer's town of Macungie, Pennsylvania. These three women met at CU Denver in the songwriting program, and their love of harmony and folk music is what brought their creativity and souls together.
The trio has been featured on Swallowhillmusic.org, 303 Magazine, and KGNU radio. The three songstresses have played the Sisters Folk Festival, Underground Music Showcase and the SXSW Women Crush Music Showcase in Austin, TX. They have also been on one self-routed tour down the West Coast and another routed around Nashville, TN. The ice cream themed band has played alongside bands the likes of Kinesics, Anthony Ruptak, Paul Dehaven (formerly of Paper Bird), David Beckingham and Avenhart. Sister Neapolitan plans to release their debut album within the next year and plans on an East coast tour in the summer of 2020. Often referred to as the female Crosby, Stills, and Nash, they have also been compared to Wailin' Jenny's and Joseph. Bringing storytelling to their fingertips and lyrics, Sister Neapolitan is a band to look out for. - NAMM
