The music of Black Kite is not merely an album of songs. Taken together as a whole (this is an album to played straight through indeed) it’s like one elegantly elongated song. For all its individual tracks they are effectively a sum that’s an amalgam of church hymnals, interludes, tribal songs, intelligent pop and experimental caustic indie rock that feels like an assorted day’s worth of emotions. Black Kite isn’t music that you just listen to; its sonic textures take it much further because it’s music that is felt, that you embrace as a listener and owns the qualities to embrace back. It is the stuff that needs to be played loud, delivering its epic feel on a grounded level. Silver Tongues has made music here that gives aural tangibility to human emotions depending on who the listener is. While Black Kite is atypical, it pleasantly sounds like a soundtrack score meshed with singer- songwriter material and confessional all at once. This is music for large places ...
