"500 Songs for Kids Review"

Raising money for kids with totally awesome '80s music

If this year’s rendition of 500 Songs for Kids truly represents the most passionate songs of all time, then the 1980s were surely a decade of great passion. The fourth evening of the event found several artists feeling totally freakin’ tubular as they covered nearly every '80s sound imaginable. Tapestry energized in the early moments of the night with a heavier version of Scorpions’ "Rock You Like a Hurricane." Not to be outdone, SidAerial stepped up the intensity with a menacing cover of the classic "Rebel Yell" by Mr. Billy Idol. Slick & Rose got the ever-growing crowd moving when they laid down "Push It" by Salt-N-Pepa (complete with a proper horn and keyboard sounds no less). No '80s cover would be complete without at least one Members Only jacket, and Chris Arrison and friends had them in spades. Their cover of Yes’ "Owner of a Lonely Heart" came equipped with proper synth sounds, neon colors abound, and even a rad keytar. Steve Perry was represented (of course) by English Nick & The Yanks as they covered the fan-favorite "Oh Sherrie" with enough passion to make even ol’ Steve proud. John Stringer and State of Man pushed things to the max (Isn’t '80s slang awesome?) and pumped up the crowd with a phenomenal version of U2’s "Pride (In the Name of Love)." The massive marathon of music and philanthropy that is 500 Songs for Kids continues to impress and entertain. The fun continues throughout the week upstairs at Smith’s Olde Bar, starting each night at 6:30 through May 9.—Mike Vetter/Special to Metromix

"Review of October 18th Performance of SidAerial"

Alternative rock flooded the ears of Vinyl’s crowd the night of Atlanta’s Rock Scene’s Rock The Vote show featuring local bands TxRx, FERVoR, One Atom 12, and SidAerial. The bands in the lineup were well suited for each other, drawing in audiences of similar tastes, and exuberating talent consistently. As the opening band closed their set, the drinks were flowing and inviting, the smoke rolled in the air from an assortment of cigarettes, the audience began enveloping the venue, and SidAerial made their way to the stage.

Fans of Staind and A Perfect Circle will enjoy SidAerial. Their knack for Alternative riffs intertwined with ambient melodies created a smooth, strong sound that bellowed from the speakers and pulsated through the crowd. Their ability to have Duncan Niederer (bass) tie in with the other instruments for a tight sound, yet still remain prominent and distinctive is a notable quality. Fingerprint opened with a deep bass line and broke into a squealing guitar that demanded attention. Aaron Andrus (guitar) let his talent shine in songs like The Void, Look What I Found, and The Way while supplying complimentary back up vocals in Knew. Jonas Lagana (lead vocals) ranges from a melodic cry to a screaming rage, demonstrating his range and emphasizing the emotions connected with every song. SidAerial had a great stage presence that reflected their love for music and performing. Andrus and fellow guitarist, Matt Hooper occasionally would face each other, feeding off the others energy and skillful blend. There were several times when every player was so enveloped in the moment, they embraced their parts and spread their contagious enthusiasm with their eyes closed. Some notable songs of the evening were Look What I Found, FMYJ, and The Way which had an excellent drum sequence courtesy of Seth Ingram. Personal favorites of the night were The Void, a combo of mellow vibes and a heavier flow, followed by Incomplete, an upbeat song with a Cali feel.

SidAerial is expecting to release their new EP this winter, which is guaranteed to be loaded with new songs and current favorites. In the meantime you can check them out at upcoming shows. Their next performance will be on Halloween at 3 Bears Café in Marietta, GA with fellow local bands Uncrowned and Haloscript.

Bio

Formed with the intention of producing a truly inspired sound, the name SidAerial is a derivative of a Latin phrase meaning “pertaining to the stars. The Atlanta foursome has shared the stage with bands such as Sevendust, Sick Puppies, Taproot, Fuel, Yelawolf, 10 Years, Bobaflex, and more. SidAerial invokes relentless rhythms mixed with both melodic and devastating chord progressions. Not satisfied by musical excellence alone, the lyrics linger and impact - integrating meaning and significance into this unique sound.

Thrilling audiences at venues including the Hard Rock Cafe, Wild Bill's, Vinyl, and Masquerade, their stage presence is captivating without pyro and props. SidAerial has just finished recording their debut full length album, Morning Sun, set to be released Summer 2012.
