Bio
Shiny Plastic People, is an electronic/alternative male and female duo from Los Angeles. The duo’s music is described as modern, song-based electronic music, with hooky vocals, synthetic and organic instruments, and a block-party feel. “Our debut album, Space Case, was inspired and recorded between Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Coachella over the last six years, which brings a fun and eclectic collection of textures and sounds to the songs”, said Cyndee Sugra.
Formed in 2007, Shiny Plastic People consists of Marlon Mehr (lead singer) and Cyndee Sugra – who both interchange between programming and playing live instruments ranging from guitars, keyboards, bass and drums.
Marlon and Cyndee met in the mid-90’s when Cyndee joined as the lead guitarist of an all-female pop/rock band, Baby Alive, which Marlon was producing and recording at his studio. Marlon was smitten over Cyndee’s ability to play Metallica guitar solos, and Cyndee became an instant fan of Marlon’s ear candy vocals, songwriting and producing skills.
Marlon has a deep musical history in Los Angeles while running his own recording studio, jamming with some of the greats - from Slash to Parliament Funkadelic, mastering for various dance labels, and recording acts including Keanu Reeve’s band Dog Star to the cast of Star Trek. Marlon continues producing new acts in his studio. He thrives on taking an artist’s weakness and turning it into the highlight of their sound and brand.
Cyndee is a classically trained pianist since the age of 5, who had a calling for playing lead guitar in junior high. Soon enough, she became the only “chic” in school that could play all of the lead guitar solos from the big rock/metal acts and was soon in demand to join bands. She played all over the Sunset strip and landed her first indie label deal at 16. She continued her study of music and sound engineering at UCLA and has been playing and recording since. She currently runs a successful digital agency she founded in Los Angeles.
The pair bonded over their love of electronic music, studio gear and guitars and have written, recorded and produced hundreds of tracks in their studio. “Initially, it wasn’t our intention to release our music, but it just felt like it was the right time to do so. These songs on Space Case are just a fraction of what we have recorded -- hopefully we get the opportunity to release more music and have some fun in the process”, said Marlon Mehr.
