Bio
Mike and Amy met at an open mic in Bethlehem, PA in 2011 .
Amy studied computer engineering at Lehigh and Mike was pursuing
computer networking at the local community college. After nerding out
about computers, discussing their musical dreams, and discovering that
skate park ramps are much steeper than they appear, it was apparent
these two were soulmates. Since then, Mike and Amy have not been apart
for more than 2 days and they are still not sick of each other.
Amy
has been playing music since she could read and has studied piano,
oboe, flute and drums. While performing in a large orchestra tops her
list, she finds the ease of their household duo irresistible and loves
the challenge of creating counterpoint melodies to complement Mike's
songwriting.
Mike was introduced to guitar through school and
encouraged to grow his natural talent by his grandparents, Mema and
Joe. Drawing his influences from their extensive record collection, he
spent summers at their house absorbing the constant flow of music and
feeling like he was getting away with something when allowed to listen
to Howard Stern on the radio.
The duo now writes and records
their music from their carriage house studio in the historic Stockade of
Schenectady, NY. Their songwriting process is an endless journey of
crafting concept tracks into live performances. Concept tracks are
created by layering tracks one by one through the computer; an
exploration in cloning yourself where songs might consist of three to
thirty distinct parts.
Shift The Paradigm live performances are a
celebration of human ability and working with what you've got, whether
that's a little or a lot. Each show is packed with an unexpected
combination of new technology and passionate playing driven by hard work
and strong feelings. This band believes music can change the world, one
performance at a time.
