BAND REVIEW: Shameless To Say – CD ‘Love For The Weekend’
When I first put the CD into my player, and knowing that the band was from Wyoming, I expected a certain amount of country to be blended into the music as so many Wyoming bands have done and sent to me to listen to. Boy was I wrong! Love For The Weekend, the CD from the post-punk pop band Shameless To Say, was a happy and pleasant surprise that brought happiness to my ears and a smile to my face.
Very rarely can you listen to a CD and say that every one of them is pretty darn good. Literally, on almost every song, Shameless To Say showcases their ability to write both catchy lyrics and spot on music and have such complimentary singers that have the ability to bring harmony to songs that almost force you to forget whets going on around you and have your mind and thoughts taken over by the music.
Anyone who knows me knows my love for songs that include instant sing along parts like na na's and la la's... ‘Let’s Go’ doesn't disappoint with a mid-song collection of la la la’s and whoa, whoa whoa’s sure to be stuck in your head instantly. Along with a killer harmony and tight musicianship, the song will have you hitting the replay button a few times.
‘California Sunset is a song that I put into the category of ‘radio ready’ which means that you can take that song right now and play it on the radio and it would be a top twenty song. Great harmonies and super lyrics that tell the story of teenage angst of young love make this .
Several other songs, such as ‘The Heat In Cheater’ and ‘Call It A Victory’ are songs that have that certain something that makes the songs stay on your lips long after the music has stopped. And The Way Out is a superb song that shows the range, and diversity, of this talented band.
The Shameless To Say appears to have a bright and promising future. If this is what to expect out of the "new" Wyoming music scene, then a vacation to the Great Northwest United States may be in order. It’s very apparent that this is a band that will be around a long, long time and a band that needs to be taken very seriously.
