“[SHADOWRAPTR] could be pegged as a psychedelic band judging by the reverb-soaked guitar and dreamy harmonies by Collins and Hensey, but the band’s incorporation of funk and afropop make it difficult to pin down a genre.”

Next up was SHADOWRAPTR, a band whose name I recognized from last year’s Clifton Heights Music Festival. Immediate thoughts were that they got off to a rough start, but not long after I felt that was probably not the case, because I just had a difficult time trying to figure out exactly what type of band they were. They list themselves as “ambient, psychedelic rock” with influences such as Radiohead, afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros and even Batman, and while that certainly held true to some extent, there was just so much more going on with this band, which can sometimes be a bit much. In this case, too much was a good thing because of how quickly they shifted gears so quickly within the same song, playing everything from the previously mentioned ambient and psychedelic rock, to ska, dancehall music, post-punk and indie pop. Definitely keep an eye out for both Sacred Spirits and SHADOWRAPTR, I’d expect bigger and better things for them in 2011. - www.brokenmic.com

Bio
SHADOWRAPTR is a four piece alternative/ambient/ psychedelic / funk / rock band from Cincinnati Ohio.
Winner of the 2011 CEA award for best new artist, SHADOWRAPTR is currently celebrating the release of their second album "love a good mystery".
Formed in the shadowy underbelly of Cincinnati in the fall of 2009, the group immediately began making waves in the local and regional scene with their complex arrangements and spirited live show. After two full length albums, the group has refined their craft and further dialed in their unique blen of guitar soaked psychedelic-soul-pop to create music that defies convention and pushes the boundaries of genre.
Combining three part harmonies with grooves derived from hip-hop and funk while keeping a firm foot in classic rock and roll, SHADOWRAPTR invents through-composed, evolving tracks that are unpredictable and mind-bending. Their far reaching influences include bands like Akron / Family, Deerhoof, Pink Floyd, Medeski Martin and Wood, Rage against the Machine and Funkadellic.
