Bio
Timing is everything. I had written these songs in a span of about 6 months and knew exactly who I wanted to be involved but finding that small window when everyone was available would be tricky. John Spiker was wrapping a world tour with Tenacious D and James McAlister had been on the road with Sufjan Stevens. We had all worked together on different projects and have known each other for a while so I knew they were the guys for the gig. It just so happened that the week I wanted to spend in Norman, OK at Blackwatch Studio's was the only week John and James had off so we packed our bags and made it happen. Chad Copelin and Jarod Evans both signed on and Shades of Jackson was born. I love artists that have an edge to them, whether it be Johnny Cash or Steve McQueen. There's an authentic edge there that can't be faked and ironically it's usually the most visible when those artists are at risk of being the most vulnerable. More so than musical inspirations, it was that spirit that I was most inspired by and wanted to be true to. Shades of Jackson is without question a collaborative effort and this album wouldn't be what it is without the contribution of all those involved. It was amazing getting in the studio and everyone instantly understanding the vibe and aesthetic of the project. My goal in releasing this album was that those who listened to it walked away feeling something. More than anything else, I hope we accomplished that.
