"NEON-SHADED ELECTRO POP"

As someone who came of age, culturally speaking, in the late ’80s and early ’90s, I have a hard time cottoning to the spate of nostalgic throwbacks to that period in pop that are taking over the cultural landscape. But, as much as I want to dismiss Sex Life for such perplexing decisions as releasing its music only on cassingles, I can’t deny the downright infectious spin of its classic candy-coated synth pop. It’s shimmery, romantic dance-party fare. Only this time, I might have the guts to ask a girl to dance. ROBERT HAM. - Willamette Week

"SEX LIFE - I WANT YOU (DRUM BREAK MIX)"

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to cop to some hometown pride on this one, but Portland’s Sex Life are making me happy to be living in the greatest city in the USA today. I feel like PDX gets pigeonholed by the rest of the country sometimes as being a city of more touchy-feely guitar and freak folk acts, thanks to dudes like James Mercer, Elliot Smith and Colin Meloy. But Portland’s electronic scene is growing and getting cooler every year, with acts like Yacht and Starfucker gaining national recognition.

But forget those guys, ‘cause Sex Life is fierce as fuck. “I Want You” is maybe the hottest thing I’m gonna hear this month (but I dare some band to prove me wrong). Volume up, kids. - Happy Radio

"Sex Life!"

Sex Life have captured the hearts of us Portlanders and soon the world!

Who are Sex Life?

“Sex Life is taking the dance-floor into the sunshine. Making dance-infused pop that takes tips as much from the aesthetics of early electro-disco as it does from the staccato rhythms of electrified African Pop. Sex Life is music for getting down in the modern world. Based out of Portland (and Toronto), Sex Life has been spreading the vibes for the past six months and is currently working on an album’s worth of cassette/mp3 releases to be doled out sometime in the spring. Just in time…”

- Niko Kwaitkowski of Sex Life

Check out their awesome new songs! If you’re in Portland tomorrow night, come see them live at East End! - Discoworkout

"PDX’s best damn dance makers at Electropolis featuring VIL, Serious Business, Starlight & Magic + more"

Sex Life’s percussion gang bang was ripe with giddy hand clapping, accordion noise, and a teen-y song about “getting busted at school.” Like Blondie stirred up in YACHT, these PDX new-comers love to chant and wriggle across the stage mixing digital magic in the air with a theremin-thingy mounted next to their keys. - Oregon Music News

Bio

Sex Life emerged during a trip to Orcas Island in the summer of 2009. Through three years as the rhythmic engine behind numerous all-night dance-parties, Sex Life's sound has grown from it's electro-pop roots towards a more organic, long-form, and soul-driven contemporary take on the essential rhythms and melodies of a timeless disco tradition. Expect alternate variations, extended jams, and plenty of extra percussion during live shows. This growth is demonstrated on their upcoming EP, which follows hot on the heels of the band's long-awaited debut LP in the summer of 2012.
