Last night I had the opportunity to actually see a band live before they’re featured, and Section 4 blew me away. Serena’s haunting voice soars and skims over the surface of the music and the whole creates an eerily sensual sound. Read what they have to say, and then listen.

Section 4’s lead singer, Serena Romero, croons like Feist or Portishead’s Beth Gibbons on her band’s first recorded effort, a three-song demo. Singing lines like “Treat me rotten, just for now,” Romero matches the dark, sometimes jazz-inspired rock created by her three bandmates. - Illinois Entertainer - Joseph Simek

Bio
Chicago-based, Section 4, is a dynamics-driven band with a dark, lyrical sound. Like many other bands, they found classifying their music a challenge. Still, after repeated comparisons to groups such as Portishead and Massive Attack (and when given simultaneous "Native American" arm burns) they decided they might just be non-electronic trip-hop. Section 4 builds upon a wide variety of influences to create original sooty sounds, sometimes sensual, sometimes disturbing. Serena Romero's voice has been likened to Portishead singer, Beth Gibbons, countless times, though the music offers a much heavier sound. As always, they continue playing regularly in the Chicagoland area. Past venues include: The Double Door, The Note (RIP), Subterranean, The Elbo Room, Reggie's Rock Club, Goose Island, Wise Fool's Pub, Underground Lounge, Quenchers...etc. You can view our myspace account: www.myspace.com/section4band
