Bio
I feel like were wearing our hearts on our sleeves by releasing this record, says Ryan Morgan (guitar, vocals) of Troubled Days, the third full length release from Cincinnati Entertainment Awards 2008 Artist of the Year, Seabird. The album is available July 16th with distribution through Tone Tree Music.
Weve questioned if we should continue to make music and are we still relevant, says Aaron Morgan (piano, vocals), the other half of the sibling songwriting duo.
With Troubled Days, the answer is a resounding yes.
Troubled Dayskicks off with the anthemic opener Love Will Be Enough. Explains Aaron, Everyone needs to be assured of something, this song is about knowing that if love were the only thing we had it would be more than enough.
Please, Please tackles the peaks and valleys of a relationship, while the title track Troubled Days recalls the lows and obstacles the band faced the previously, Its a bit tongue-in-cheek, explains Ryan.
Signing with Credential Recordings/EMI in 2008, Seabird released two successful albums, 2008s Til We See the Shore and 2009s Rocks into Rivers. With support at MTVU (the single Rescue spent multiple weeks at #1 on Most Wanted and also appeared on The Freshmen) and lucrative placements on Pushing Daisies, Greys Anatomy, and Numb3rs, they quickly recouped on both records. EMI provided us with incredible TV/Film licensing opportunities, which gave our band momentum, but ultimately we had different visions for touring and radio recalls Aaron.
With the desire for more artistic control and direct interaction with their fans, Seabird approached EMI to negotiate an end to their recording contract. And in 2012, turned to the popular fan funding format on Kickstarter to successfully raise over $40,000 for Troubled Days.
Because we own this record more than any in the past, it leaves us more vulnerable. I feel like while facing, and ultimately overcoming our fears of having the weight of this project on our shoulders alone, we found creative freedom. The kind we have always longed for.
Aside from fans, Seabird has also found support in Cincinnati. The city has opened its arms inviting the band to perform at a number of high profile events including the Cincinnati Cyclones at the US Bank Arena and this summer at the annual Bunbury Festival on July 12th alongside headliners Fun, MGMT and The National. And the city skyline is the backdrop in their forthcoming video for Love Will Be Enough.
