"Constantine's vocals are intimate and soaring, reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Elbow. Seattle band Safer's debut is a dynamic set of haunting, hook-filled indie rock." - KEXP DJ Michele Myers - KEXP DJ Michelle Myers

Bio

Safer began as a recording project in 2005, when founding members Joseph Constantine and Andy Ruggles began collaborating on songs left over from previously imploded projects. Safer's self-titled EP, mixed by producer Brian Brown (The Blakes, Juliana Hatfield, Pete Yorn), took form by avoiding form and letting the material guide the evolution. From the raw, lo-fi, recorded-in-a-basement sound of the opener ‘Skin’, to the eerie trip-hop groove of ‘All Around You’, Safer’s debut doesn’t rest on it’s laurels in it’s diversity.

Following Safer's radio debut on local Seattle indie radio station KEXP, Constantine and Ruggles began to build the project into a live band. Bassist Mike Lorenzi, a long time friend of Ruggles, seemed an easy fit for bass. And after a year of line-up change, Safer added former Optimus Rhyme drummer Tim Carter to the roster in early 2008. Wasting no time, Safer immediately went into the studio following a few small shows. The result, a blistering set of seven songs showcasing vocals, driving drum and bass, and intricate guitar riffs. “Now You Turn On” seems to scream out in an attempt to shake us awake with an almost frantic urgency.
Safer is currently booking Northwest and West coast U.S. shows in support of Now You Turn On”.
